Fiber optic PLC splitter is a kind of integrated waveguide optical power distribution device based on quartz substrate. It is widely used in passive optical network (PON) and FTTx network. It is one of the most important passive optical devices in optical fiber links. It has one or more input terminals and multiple output terminals, which are used to connect the local terminals and terminal devices in passive optical network (PON) and achieve optical signal splitting. The largest difference between the cascade distribution and the concentrated distribution is that the cascade distribution has two stages of light splitting (the concentration distribution is only one stage of the light splitting). For example, if we use fiber optic plc splitter in cascade distribution to provide service to 32 home users, the optical splitter is dispersed, the splitting ratio of the PLC splitter in first level is 1:4, and the splitting ratio of the PLC splitter in second level is 1:8.

The cascade distribution way is more complex than the concentrated distribution, but it can maximize the utilization of optical fiber resources, and the wiring is flexible, which is more suitable for the more dispersed network applications.
