Duplex 2205 is a nitrogen enhanced, cost effective stainless steel solution developed to combat memorable corrosion problems in certain services. It consists of austenite pools surrounded by a continuous ferrite phase, making it a unique alloy in comparison to the typical 300 series stainless steels. The combination of chromium, molybdenum, and nitrogen provides good resistance to chloride pitting and crevice corrosion, making it ideal for marine environments, brackish water, bleaching operations, and closed loop water systems.

However, its usage should be limited to temperatures below 600°F, as any higher could embrittle the Duplex 2205 alloy. Additionally, it should be noted that 2205 should not be used in environments which would cause it to be exposed to temperatures above 1300°F.
