Henan Xinmi Industrial furnace refractories magnesia carbon brick
for steel ladle slag line MT14A
Magnesia carbon bricks for steel ladle are made of
high-melting alkaline oxide magnesium oxide (melting point 2800℃)
and high-melting carbon materials that are difficult to be
infiltrated by slag as raw materials, with various non-oxide
additives added. A non-burning carbon composite refractory material
combined with a carbon binder. Magnesia carbon bricks are mainly
used for lining of converters, AC electric arc furnaces, DC
electric arc furnaces, and slag lines of ladle.
As a composite refractory material, magnesia carbon bricks
effectively utilize the strong slag erosion resistance of magnesia
and the high thermal conductivity and low expansion of carbon,
which compensates for the biggest disadvantage of poor spalling
resistance of magnesia.
Magnesia carbon bricks are made of dead burnt magnesia (or fused
magnesia) and carbon materials (mainly crystallized graphite) as
raw materials, using resin as a binder to prepare and press, and
heat treatment. In order to improve the oxidation resistance,
antioxidants such as metals are often added.

Magnesia carbon bricks form a carbon skeleton bond when used at
high temperatures. Since magnesium oxide and carbon do not have a
mutual soluble relationship, the excellent fire resistance of the
original components is retained. Carbon has good thermal
conductivity, low thermal expansion coefficient and low elasticity
coefficient, which can effectively prevent high-temperature
spalling and slag penetration, and is not prone to structural
spalling, which greatly changes the fatal weakness of degraded
structure spalling caused by magnesia refractory slag penetration.
Coupled with the non-wetting of carbon to slag, the corrosion
resistance is also good. These series of characteristics of
magnesia carbon bricks make it an ideal lining material with good
thermal shock stability, corrosion resistance and spalling
resistance.

Magnesia carbon bricks have a wide range of uses, and can be used
in key parts of thermal equipment such as steel-making converters,
electric arc furnaces, ladles, and out-of-furnace refining
furnaces.
Since the use of magnesia carbon bricks instead of magnesia chrome
bricks in my country's refined ladle slag line bricks, the
comprehensive use effect is obvious. The 300t ladle slag line of
Baosteel Co., Ltd. started to use MT-14A magnesia carbon bricks in
July 1989, and the life of the slag line was maintained above 100
times; the 150T electric furnace ladle slag line used low-carbon
magnesia carbon bricks to smelt cord steel, and the tapping
temperature 1600℃~1670℃, the obvious effect has been achieved.
