Problems and solutions of CNC cutting stainless steel tools

After CNC turning, the surface roughness of the thread is too bad. The phenomenon of fish scale corrugation and nibbling is the most common phenomenon in the turning of stainless steel thread. The reasons for these phenomena are as follows:

(1) The back Angle of both sides of the thread turning tool is too small, and the friction between the two sides of the edge and the back surface of the thread deteriorates the machining surface. The influence of the thread rotation Angle on the actual back Angle of both sides of the turning tool must be considered during machining.

(2) The front Angle of the thread turning tool is too small, the cutting edge is not sharp enough, the chip can not be cut off smoothly, but is partially squeezed or torn down, which must cause the surface of the thread is very rough. When the front Angle is too large, the strength of the blade is weakened and it is easy to wear, crack and tie the knife, which is more likely to cause vibration and produce ripples on the surface of the thread. Therefore, the appropriate front Angle should be selected according to the different materials of stainless steel. When turning the stainless steel thread with concentrated sulfuric acid resistance, the front Angle should be smaller than that of the 2Cr13 stainless steel thread, and the cutting edge on both sides of the turning tool should be equipped with a very narrow edge belt to avoid the cutting edge being worn quickly. Cutting 2Cr13, 1Cr17, 4Cr13, cutting edge should be as sharp as possible, otherwise it is not easy to achieve the required good surface roughness.

(3) The thread knife blade is blunted, the front Angle and back Angle are actually from large to small, the chip is squeezed seriously in the formation process, so that the cutting force is increased in the cutting process, the vibration is aggravated, and the machining surface is seriously deteriorated. Therefore, when turning stainless steel threads, the blade must be kept sharp at any time, and the tool head must be replaced in time.

(4) The screw turning tool is not fixed firmly, the tool head is extended too long, the rigidity of the tool rod is not enough, or the machine tool precision is poor, the spindle is loose, the tool rest is loose and other factors will cause vibration, so that the thread surface produces ripples. Therefore, in the operation must pay attention to the operation of machine tools, tools and workpieces, so that the system has enough rigidity. When installing the turning tool, in addition to ensure that the installation is firm and there can be no loosening, the turning tool tip should be slightly higher than the center of the workpiece 0.2 ~ 0.5mm, must not be lower than the center, so as not to prick the knife.

(5) The direct feeding method should be avoided when turning threads. Because the chip contact length on both sides is long, it is easy to produce vibration, which increases the load borne by the tool tip, causes vibration and increases the resistance of chip removal, and scratches the machining surface. Therefore, for stainless steel thread processing the best choice of cross-type turning thread method. This method uses alternating lateral feed, especially for large pitch thread and viscous material cutting, is the most effective measure to solve the vibration problem. Because the cutting edge is used cross-left and right, the wear is uniform and the service life of the tool can be extended.

(6) In the process of CNC cutting thread, the matching degree of cutting parameters directly affects the efficiency of machining. Too small cutting will aggravate the tool wear, too large will make the tool collapse, so the number of cuts and each cut feed will have a decisive impact on the turning thread. For optimal tool life, workpiece diameter should not be greater than 0.14mm thread diameter, and feed per tool less than 0.05mm should be avoided. The total cutting amount of machining should be set at about 0.1mm, the first cutting depth should be 150 ~ 200(percent sign) of the tool tip radius (R), the maximum can not exceed 0.5mm, for austenitic stainless steel should avoid less than 0.08mm per tool feed, internal thread with small tip radius of the ordinary blade blade, The number of cuts may increase accordingly as the depth of the tool decreases.
