The IC693CMM301 Genius Communications bus uses a noise immune
network so as to offer fast data transmission of real-time control
data. Series 90-30 PLCs are able to connect with one another via a
one Genius I/O serial bus with the aid of standard twisted pair,
shielded cable, daisy-chained between devices, and terminated at
both ends. It is important to use the proper cable to ensure good
performance of the system. Genius communication modules have LED
indicators located at the front.
On usual operations, it is switched on to show the operating status
of the module. OK indicates the status of the GBC module where the
LED switches on when the power checkup is done. COM displays the
status of the Genius communications bus. This indicator remains
constantly on, indicating the bus is working well. In case of a
failed bus, the indicator blinks and eventually goes off showing
there are bus errors and no communication from the PLC. Up to eight
Enhanced Genius Communications Modules can be used in a Series
90-30 PLC system. The amount of I/O circuits served by a single
Genius bus depends on the varied forms of I/O devices being
utilized and the amount of memory storage in the CPU.
The GE Fanuc IC693CMM301 Genius Communications Module can exchange
a maximum of 32 bytes or 256 bits of data in total. It is easy to
connect the IC693CMM301 Genius Communications Module to the
backplate of the PLC that hosts it. This module has no jumpers or
DIP switches, so it must be configured with a handheld programmer
or with the proper system programming software. There are 2 LEDs on
the IC693CMM301 Genius Communications Module.
The OK LED means that the module has completed and passed its powerup test and that it is operating properly. The COM LED means that the module has been initialized by a Series 90-30 GE PLC and that the module is receiving bus communications. The COM LED will stay on after a successful startup and throughout operation unless there is a significantly high number errors, which will cause the COM LED to blink.
