Working Principle Description:

Adsorption: Ambient air, which consists of approximately 78% nitrogen and 21% oxygen, is drawn into the PSA nitrogen generator. The air is then compressed to the required pressure, typically between 5 and 10 bar, using a compressor. The compressed air is then passed through a series of filters to remove any contaminants, such as dust and oil.

 

Adsorption Columns: The filtered and compressed air enters the PSA nitrogen generator's adsorption columns, which are packed with a specialized adsorbent material such as carbon molecular sieve (CMS) or zeolite. These materials have a high affinity for oxygen molecules, allowing them to selectively adsorb oxygen while allowing nitrogen to pass through.

 

Separation: The adsorption columns are typically operated in a twin-tower configuration. One tower is in the adsorption phase, while the other is in the regeneration phase. The compressed air enters the adsorption tower, and oxygen molecules are adsorbed onto the adsorbent material, allowing nitrogen to pass through and accumulate as the desired product gas.

 

Regeneration: After a set period of time, the adsorption tower becomes saturated with oxygen molecules and needs to be regenerated. The regeneration process involves reducing the pressure in the tower, which causes the adsorbed oxygen molecules to be desorbed and released back into the atmosphere. Switching Towers: Once the adsorption tower has completed the adsorption phase and the other tower has finished the regeneration phase, the roles of the towers are switched. The regenerated tower now enters the adsorption phase, while the other tower goes into the regeneration phase. This switching between the towers ensures a continuous supply of high-purity nitrogen gas.

 

Product Gas Delivery: The high-purity nitrogen gas, now separated from the oxygen in the adsorption phase, is collected and delivered to the desired application through a pipeline or storage vessel. The purity level of the nitrogen gas can be adjusted by controlling the operating parameters, such as the cycle time, pressure, and flow rate, within the PSA nitrogen generator.
