Working Principle Description:

Pressure swing adsorption (PSA) is an advanced gas separation technology. Because of its simple process, reliable operation and simple operation, it is widely used in the fields of air drying, purification and separation (purification of nitrogen or oxygen).

 

Air separation (purification of nitrogen as an example) is carried out in the adsorption tower equipped with carbon molecular sieves (CMS). Its main principle is: due to the different diffusion rates of nitrogen and oxygen molecules in the air on the micropores on the surface of carbon molecular sieves, oxygen molecules with smaller diameter diffuse faster, more enter the solid phase (micropores) of molecular sieves, nitrogen molecules with larger diameter diffuse slower, and less enter the solid phase (micropores) of molecular sieves.

 

In this way, the enriched part of nitrogen is obtained in the gas phase; Under a certain pressure of adsorption equilibrium, the higher the air pressure, the greater the adsorption capacity of carbon molecular sieve; On the contrary, the lower the pressure, the smaller the adsorption capacity.

 

When the inlet valve is opened, the compressed clean air enters from the inlet end of the adsorption tower through the internal carbon molecular sieve and flows clockwise to the outlet end. The gas molecular components such as oxygen molecules and carbon dioxide are quickly adsorbed. The product nitrogen is enriched with high purity at the outlet end of the adsorption tower and flows into the nitrogen buffer tank through the outlet valve. After a period of time, the carbon molecular sieve adsorption is saturated.

 

At this time, the inlet valve and outlet valve are automatically closed, The adsorption tower stops adsorption and regenerates the carbon molecular sieve. The carbon molecular sieve regeneration is to vent the gas in the adsorption tower against the current by opening the exhaust valve to remove the adsorbed oxygen molecules, carbon dioxide and other gas molecular components. The adsorption and desorption process is realized through pressure change, so the process is called pressure swing adsorption (PSA).
