Preparation before MIG weld aluminum for robot welding aluminum
How to clean the base metal and welding wire before MIG welds aluminum?
Aluminum and aluminum alloy weldments should be cleaned before
welding. The purpose is to remove oxide film and oil to prevent
stomata and slag from forming in the weld.
The cleaning methods commonly used in production include two
processes of cleaning oil and removing oxide film.
1. Cleaning of oil stains
The oil stain on the surface of the workpiece can be wiped with gasoline, carbon tetrachloride, trichloroethylene and acetone. When cleaning, it should be cleaned with a clean white cloth and solvent. Be careful not to use cotton yarn.
2. Cleaning of the oxide film
The surface oxide film is ineffective by the above solvent cleaning, and only chemical cleaning and mechanical cleaning can be used.
a. Chemical cleaning is to clean the surface of the workpiece with
alkali and acid. The method can remove the oxide film and remove
the oil. The specific process is as follows: sodium hydroxide
solution with a volume fraction of 6% to 10%, soaked at 70 ° C or
so. 0.5min → water washing → 15% nitric acid soaked at room
temperature for 1min for neutralization treatment → water washing →
warm water washing → drying. The surface after washing is a matt
silver white.
b. Mechanical cleaning can use pneumatic or electric milling
cutters, and tools such as scrapers and boring tools can also be
used. For thinner oxide films, stainless steel wire brushes or thin
wire brush brushes can also be used until a metallic luster is
exposed.
It is best to apply welding immediately after cleaning. If the
parking time exceeds 4h, it should be cleaned up again.
It is more important for wire cleaning. The supply of the wire
shall be a clean and brightly treated coiled wire, usually in a
plastic bag. It should be used up as soon as possible after
opening. Otherwise the contaminated wire is difficult to reuse.
