3 . Vibratory Bowl Feeder ​Material:

 

When it comes to feeders, the material used for the part contact surface is of utmost importance. In the past, cast iron and cast aluminum were commonly used for bowl construction in the industry. However, over time, it was observed that these materials wore down significantly due to the metal-on-metal contact and friction involved. To address this issue, feeder builders now exclusively use 304 and 316 Stainless Steel.

 

Stainless steel is an excellent choice for feeding projects due to its wear strength and hardness. It is a durable material that can withstand rigorous use in the field, while still offering the flexibility for re-working and repairs. By utilizing stainless steel construction, the overall lifespan of the tooling setup and basic bowl features of a vibratory feeder is significantly improved. This is particularly beneficial for applications such as food and pharmaceutical parts feeders, where cleanliness and reliability are crucial.

 

In cases where the parts being handled are highly abrasive, additional measures can be taken to protect the feeder. One option is to coat the bowl feeder with polyurethane or Rhino LINE-X liner coating. The LINE-X coating, known for its strength and durability, is the same coating used by storm chasers on their vehicles to withstand the forces of a tornado. Unlike polyurethane, LINE-X coating is virtually bulletproof and has been successfully used on many truck beds across the country. Applying any coating to the feeder provides an extra layer of wear protection and assurance. Even if the parts wear through the coating, it is unlikely that they will penetrate the stainless-steel sidewalls and tracks. In such a scenario, the old coating can be burned out, the feeder can be sandblasted, and a new coating can be applied.
