Titanium bars are of high thermal strength, good weldability and
excellent corrosion resistance. The disadvantage is that the room
temperature strength is low. They are usually used as
heat-resistant materials and corrosion resistant materials.
Titanium alloys are widely used in various fields because of their
high specific strength, good corrosion resistance and high heat
resistance. The industrial production of titanium began in 1948.
The demand of aviation industry makes the titanium industry develop
at an average annual growth rate of about 8%. At present, the
annual output of international titanium alloy processing materials
has reached 4 million tons, and titanium alloy trademarks are
nearly 30 kinds. Titanium alloy is mainly used to make aircraft
engine compressor parts, followed by layout parts of rockets,
missiles and high-speed aircraft. In the middle of the 60s,
titanium and its alloys have been used in common industries, such
as electrodes for the electrolysis industry, condensers for power
stations, petroleum refining and desalination heaters, and
environmental pollution control equipment. Titanium and its alloys
have become a corrosion resistant material.
Titanium alloy is a new important layout data used in aerospace
industry. Its specific gravity, strength and application
temperature are between aluminum and steel, but its specific
strength is high, and has excellent seawater corrosion resistance
and ultra-low temperature function. The amount of titanium alloy
used in aero engine usually accounts for 20% to 30% of the total
weight of the titanium alloy. It is mainly used for making
compressor components, such as casting titanium fans, compressor
plates and blades, casting titanium compressor casing, intermediate
casing, bearing housing and so on. Spacecraft mainly use the high
specific strength, corrosion resistance and low temperature
resistance of titanium alloy to make all kinds of pressure vessels,
fuel tanks, fasteners, instrument straps, frames and rocket shells.
Artificial earth satellites, lunar module, manned spaceships and
space shuttles also use titanium alloy plate welds.
