DIP Outdoor LED Display VS SMD Outdoor LED Display
At present, the LED (light emitting diode) as main components for LED display, there are mainly two kinds of encapsulation, namely the Direct Insert Package (DIP) and Surface Mounted Devices (SMD). Generally speaking, DIP LED mainly used in outdoor LED display screen, and the SMD LED is applied to both indoor and outdoor LED screen. In addition, what is the other difference they have?
Advantages and disadvantages of DIP led display:
(1) Advantages: better color consistency; can be waterproof; and work with pixel sharing technology, also named virtual pixel technology;
(2) Disadvantages: poor pixel mixing effect, small viewing angle, and manufacturing is more complicated, demand higher antistatic level. Actual pixel resolution is difficult to achieve pixels more than 10,000 per square meter;
DIP Display has the advantage of the waterproof function, the brightness, moisture-proof and UV protection function. Performance of DIP display is better.
SMD LED display: This solution usually for smaller pixel pith Led display:
Advantages: Good color consistency, the viewing angle is the best among the recent used light source; also with very good mixing color, can be for high resolution;
Disadvantages: Process is very difficult, and high cost, require high antistatic level SMT technology;
Compared with DIP Display, SMD display has the advantage of light weight, wide visual angle, good color fidelity, and better color uniformity. For production, SMD is easy to use automatic machine to produce. Save the labor cost and able to large-scale production. In the future, SMD display will have more competitive price.

SMD led display has 120 degree viewing angle in horizontal directions; DIP led display has 110 degree viewing angle in horizontal directions:
(2) compared with SMD led display, DIP led display is energy-saving, has more brightness, most important, stable quality.
It has been proved that DIP led has more than 15 years history and has better quality. Most outdoor led display, especially larger-sized outdoor led displays, is DIP led display. In our company, more than 80% orders are DIP led display.
SMD led display only has 3-5 years history. When SMD5050 led lamp was introduced to the market, it had many problems. Many of them did not work when the outdoor led display were installed completely. In recent two years, SMD3535, SMD2828, SMD2727 and SMD2525 and even SMD1921 were proved by the market. They are OK now.
SMD led is suitable for smaller-sized outdoor led displays.
