Brackish Water Treatment Plant
What is brackish water? Why not for the industry?
Brackish water is any type of water with total dissolved solids
(TDS) levels in the range of 1000 to 15000 PPM.Most of the world's
water is brackish or brackish.Only three percent of the earth's
water is classified as fresh water - most sources of water have
high salinity, too high for human consumption or industrial use.
The salt water came in with several different variations:
Slight: 1000 to 3000 PPM TDS
Saltiness: 3,000 to 10,000 PPM TDS
High: 10000 to 15000ppm TDS
For industrial USES, the EPA considers freshwater levels below
1,000 PPM and TDS below 500ppm safe for human consumption.
This prevents brackish water from being used for industrial
purposes. But with reverse osmosis (RO), companies can change all
that.Drops below 1000 PPM are possible.
How does the reverse osmosis osmotic agent supply the osmotic
water?
Reverse osmosis is a major component of making water safe for
industry and commerce.Using a high pressure pump, salt is pressed
into brackish water and driven by a semi-permeable RO membrane
filtration system.
This draws nearly 99 percent of the salt from the salt water and
causes it to be discarded from the newly used water source. The more
salt and other minerals in brackish water, the greater the pressure
required.
Reverse osmosis systems also use cross filtration, allowing
contaminants to be filtered to a separate outlet. This means that
the filtered water flows in the other direction, and the
contaminated water flows in the other direction. However, brackish
water reverse osmosis system and the traditional reverse osmosis
system is not the same.
