The comprehensive refractor first appeared as an instrument to
check the function of the extraocular muscles. It checks the
concentration of light after entering the eyeball. It uses the
state of the emmetropia as the standard to measure the difference
in vergence and dispersion between the inspected eye and the
emmetropia.
