Buy S19XP or Whatsminer M50S? Compare flagship ASIC miners.

Not even a year passes without a significant update of the lines of mining devices. 2022 was no exception in this regard, and two leading manufacturers immediately release their updated flagship ASIC miners. In fairness it should be said that Whatsminer is still late with the release of the Whatsminer M50S, but the test models have already been presented at various exhibitions and the site has exact specifications, which means we can make a comparative analysis of S19XP and Whatsminer M50S.

After all, the lower this indicator, the more profitability you get, at lower energy costs. And here the S19XP wins by a fairly large margin. As you can see, with less consumption, it produces more hashrate. The rest of the difference lies in the form factor, dimensions and weight, which, in general, are already secondary, but for someone still important parameters.

So Whatsminer M50S has, classic for this line, a horizontally elongated form factor, a block screwed on top and only two fans, one for intake and the other for exhaust. According to Whatsminer engineers, this approach to architecture best ensures the reliability of the miner, as we can see in past models. The entire line, starting with the M21s, is highly valued for its build reliability and durability. Let's see if we managed to keep such a great feature in the latest Whatsminer M50S.

Bitmain, in turn, is in no hurry to abandon its architecture model and continues to make “two-story” devices. This means that the ASIC miner is vertically elongated and has four fans, two in front and two behind the ASIC. In practice, this really helps keep the boards cooler and makes the S19XP cooler (as far as possible in mining) than Whatsminer.

It will not be possible to compare the miners in terms of cost yet, since there are no prices for the Whatsminer M50S now. But looking ahead, we can say that Whatsminer M50S should cost 10-15% cheaper than its direct competitor S19XP. And in general, I would like to wish MicroBT greater insight in the race for better energy efficiency, otherwise Bitmain, already the leader in the mining equipment market, will come off an unattainable distance.
