Corrosion resistance: 201 stainless steel offers good resistance to corrosion, although it is generally considered less corrosion-resistant than 304 stainless steel. It can withstand exposure to moisture and mild atmospheric conditions, but it may be more susceptible to tarnishing and surface discoloration over time.
Lower nickel content: One of the main differences between 201 and 304 stainless steel is the lower nickel content in 201 stainless steel. It contains about 4-6% nickel, compared to the 8-10% nickel content in 304 stainless steel. The lower nickel content contributes to a more affordable price point for 201 stainless steel.
High-temperature resistance: 201 stainless steel has good heat resistance and can handle moderate temperatures. However, it may not perform as well as 304 stainless steel in high-temperature applications, as it has a lower melting point and may experience some loss of strength and integrity at elevated temperatures.
Formability: Similar to 304 stainless steel, 201 stainless steel is relatively easy to form and fabricate. It can be bent, welded, and shaped into various pipe configurations, allowing for flexibility in design and installation.
Lower overall corrosion resistance: While 201 stainless steel offers decent corrosion resistance, it is generally not recommended for highly corrosive environments or applications. It may be more suitable for indoor or less harsh environments where exposure to corrosive agents is limited.
Applications: 201 stainless steel pipes are commonly used in less demanding applications where cost-effectiveness is a priority. They can be found in residential plumbing, decorative applications, furniture, and some automotive components. However, they are less common in exhaust systems or applications that require high resistance to corrosion and extreme temperatures.
It's important to note that 201 stainless steel pipes may not have
the same longevity and durability as 304 stainless steel pipes in
harsh or corrosive environments. If you require enhanced corrosion
resistance or higher-temperature capabilities, it is advisable to
consider 304 stainless steel or other more corrosion-resistant
grades for your specific application.
