First of all, we can see from the element table that the carbon content of 302 stainless steel is C≤0.15, and not all 304 stainless steels are suitable for making springs. Generally, 304H is used to make springs. The carbon content of 304H is 0.04-0.1%. In between, we can see through comparison that the carbon content of 302 stainless steel is higher than 304H, and the increase in carbon content increases the elasticity of the stainless steel spring after it is produced.
Therefore, under the condition that the specifications of the two models are the same and the production process is equivalent, the spring force of the 302 stainless steel material must be slightly greater than the 304H stainless steel spring. In other properties, there is almost no difference.
302 stainless steel springs rarely appear in the domestic market, but 302 stainless steel is widely used abroad. Why? This is because 304 stainless steel is recognized in the country and used more, and 302 stainless steel can basically be replaced by 304. There are infinite specifications of spring steel wire. The steel wire is slowly cold drawn from a thicker steel rod to become thinner, because the 302 material itself is less used, and the cost of cold drawing is higher. Therefore, general 302 stainless steel is cheaper than 304 stainless steel, but 302 stainless steel wire is more expensive than 304 stainless steel wire. At least this is the case in China.
So why is there still a demand for 302 stainless steel springs under such conditions?
