Definition
Lightning arrester: An electrical appliance used to protect
electrical equipment from high transient overvoltage hazards during
lightning strikes and to limit the duration of the renewal current,
and often also the renewal current amplitude. Lightning arrester is
sometimes also called overvoltage protector, overvoltage limiter.
