Triple convoluted air bags/suspension air spring are most commonly used on trailer lift axles. They have 3 bellows on top of each other and are larger than your typically air spring. Rubber Damage from Chemicals

• Grease and oil are common examples that can cause this condition after prolonged contact with the rubber flexible member.

Possible causes:
1. Excessive oil in the air supply.
2. Excessive greasing of universal joints.
3. Excessive greasing of the fifth wheel.
4. Leaking seals in suspension components.
5. Use of petroleum based cleaners on the air spring (use only soap and water for cleaning).

 

External Abrasion
• A hole rubbed into the side of the bellows.
Possible causes:
1. Bellows contact with components on the vehicle (such as air lines).
2. Road dirt and debris.
3. Worn or failed parts in the suspension.
