Alloy furnace tap hole clay is a plastic refractory material used to seal the tap hole of the alloy furnace. The tap hole of the alloy furnace must be opened and blocked many times a day.
When the iron is tapped, hot molten iron and molten slag flow
through the tap hole, causing physical and chemical reactions and
scouring effects on the tap hole clay; at the end of the tap, use a
tap hole clay to press the new tap hole clay into the tap hole to
seal the tap hole. Prevent molten iron and molten slag from flowing
out, and protect the furnace wall and bottom of the tap hole area.
In the tapping operation in front of the alloy furnace,
the tap hole clay functions as a valve, requiring the tap
hole clay to maintain a stable diameter of the tap hole and a
uniform tapping speed.
The composition of tap hole clay can be divided into two parts-refractory aggregate and binder. Refractory aggregates refer to refractory raw materials such as corundum, mullite, and coke gemstones, and modified materials such as coke and mica. The binding agent is organic materials such as water or tar pitch and phenolic resin, and is also mixed with SiC, Si3N4, expansion agents and additives. The aggregate forms a matrix according to a certain particle size and weight, and it has a certain degree of plasticity under the adjustment of the binder, so that the molten iron can be blocked by the tape hole clay into the tap hole.
Tap hole caly is a refractory material used to seal the tap hole. It can be divided into two categories: water bearing tap hole clay and water free tap hole clay. The former is used in small and medium alloy furnaces with low top pressure and low level of intensified smelting, and the latter On large and medium-sized alloy furnaces with high top pressure and high degree of intensified smelting.
Water bearing tape hole clay
Water bearing tape hole clay is usually made of clay, coke powder,
bauxite clinker and tar pitch as the main material, and then mixed
and stirred with water as a binder. Water bearing tape hole clay is
a type of tap hole clay that was used in large quantities in the
early days. However, due to its relatively small volume density and
weak resistance to scouring of iron slag solution, it is easy to
cause insufficient depth of the tap hole and runaway during tapping
when used on large and medium alloy furnaces. Phenomena such
as coke, iron tapping and venting and unclean iron slag will affect
the normal production of the alloy furnace. So far, due to the
low cost of water tap hole clay, many medium and small alloy
furnaces (<2000m3) are still improving their composition,
working hard to adapt to the smelting environment, and their unit
consumption is above 1.2kg·t-1.
Water free tape hole clay
Water free tape hole clay generally uses corundum, high alumina
bauxite, clay, sericite, pitch, silicon carbide, coke powder, etc.
as raw materials, and uses tar, resin, etc. as binders. The bulk
density of corundum and high alumina bauxite is relatively large,
and they play the role of supporting the skeleton in the tap hole
clay, which is the foundation of the tap hole clay strength, which
greatly improves the ability of the tap hole clay to resist the
scouring of the iron slag solution; the coke powder has good
reduction It can protect other carbon components, maintain the
reducing atmosphere of the blast furnace tap hole, and has good
thermal conductivity, which can be quickly sintered and has a
certain sintering strength; silicon carbide has small thermal
expansion coefficient, good thermal conductivity, and excellent
thermal shock resistance, which can be improved The refractoriness,
volume stability, high temperature strength and erosion resistance
of tap hole clay; clay and asphalt improve the plasticity of tap
hole clay; sericite improves the sintering strength and plasticity
of tap hole clay. The Water free tape hole clay has the advantages
of no dampness, high strength, stable tap hole depth, small tap
hole changes during tapping, etc., and it will not cause a large
flow.

Tap hole clay production:
Every process has an impact on the quality of the tap hole clay, from the design of the mixing ratio of the tap hole clay to the production, and then to the preservation before use. A reasonable ratio must be determined before production, and the production must be carried out in strict accordance with the process and operating procedures, and pay attention to the order of feeding various raw materials during milling. The dry mixing time and wet grinding time should be strictly controlled, and the time should not be too short. At the same time, the temperature during mixing is controlled. After the Mar shall value of the tap hole clay reaches a certain value, it is discharged and squeezed and packed for use. The produced tap hole clay should be properly preserved.
The tap hole clay process is mainly: accurate ingredients → dry
grinding → oiling and rolling → performance control → storage in
storage → maintenance → use.
The temperature during the mixing of tap hole clay is generally 55
to 65°C. Dry grind for 5-10 minutes, then add the binder and grind
it with fine powder. The amount of binder added is about 98% of the
formula, and the remaining 2% is adjusted. The milling time varies
according to the capacity of the alloy furnace. Generally, samples
should be taken at multiple points after 35 to 45 minutes of
milling to determine the Marcia value. According to the test
results, adding tar or dry powder requires continuous milling for
about 10 minutes. The first batch of tap hole clay is produced
every day. The mud mill is relatively dry, and the amount of binder
added is a little more. The amount of binder added has a certain
relationship with the temperature. The amount of addition in summer
should be appropriately reduced, and the amount of addition in
winter should be appropriately increased.
Tap hole clay usage:
The alloy furnace tap hole clay must firstly block the tap hole, and secondly, ensure that the tap hole can be opened smoothly during tapping, and the tap hole channel formed by it must be smoothly tapped. Third, the taphole must be kept deep enough to protect it. In the hearth, any function that is not up to or incomplete may cause accidents. Therefore, there are the following requirements for tap hole clay:
(1) Good plasticity, can smoothly push into the tap hole from the
tap hole clay and fill the tap hole channel.
(2) It has fast-drying and fast-hardening properties, hardens in a
short time, and has high strength.
(3) The opening performance is good, so that the tap hole can be
opened smoothly.
(4) The scouring and erosion performance of high temperature
resistant slag iron is good. During the tapping process, the hole
diameter of the tap hole cannot be enlarged due to the scouring of
the hot molten iron to ensure the stability of the molten iron
flow.
(5) The volume stability is good, and it has a certain porosity to
ensure that after the tap hole channel is blocked, there will be no
excessive shrinkage and fracture during the heating process. The
appropriate porosity makes the volatile components in the tap hole
clay. It can escape smoothly without cracks, and ensure the seal of
the iron port.
(6) No environmental pollution is produced, and a good working
environment is created for work in front of the furnace.
