Introduction to graphite electrodes

Graphite electrode, mainly made of petroleum coke and needle coke, coal tar pitch as binder, calcined, compounded, kneaded, pressed, calcined, graphitized, machined, is released in the form of electric arc in electric arc furnace The conductor that heats and melts the charge of the electric charge can be divided into ordinary power, high power and ultra high power according to its quality index.

 

Instructions for use of Graphite electrode

1. Damp graphite electrodes should be dried before use.
2. Remove the foam protective cap on the spare graphite electrode hole and check whether the internal thread of the electrode hole is complete.
3. Clean the surface of the spare graphite electrode and the internal thread of the hole with compressed air without oil and water; avoid cleaning with steel wire or metal brush.
4. Carefully screw the joint into the electrode hole of the end of the spare graphite electrode (it is not recommended to directly insert the joint into the electrode removed from the furnace). Do not hit the thread.
5. Screw the electrode spreader (a graphite spreader is recommended) into the electrode hole at the other end of the spare electrode.
6. When lifting the electrode, pad the soft material to the underside of the end of the spare electrode fitting to prevent the ground from damaging the joint; lift the lifting ring with the hook into the lifting ring of the spreader, and lift the electrode to be stable to prevent the electrode from being loosened by the B end. Take off or collide with other fixtures.
7. Hang the spare electrode above the electrode to be connected, and then slowly drop it after aligning the electrode hole; rotate the spare electrode to rotate the screw hook together with the electrode; when the distance between the two electrode ends is 10-20mm, use compressed air again. Clean both ends of the electrode and the exposed part of the joint; when the electrode is completely lowered at the end, it should not be too strong, otherwise the electrode hole and the thread of the joint will be damaged due to the violent collision.
8. Screw the spare electrode with a torque wrench until the end faces of the two electrodes are in close contact (the correct connection between the electrode and the joint is less than 0.05 mm).

Production process of Graphite electrode
The petroleum coke and needle coke are used as raw materials, and the coal bitumen is used as a binder, which is prepared by calcination, compounding, kneading, pressing, roasting, graphitization and machining.

 

Technology

 Specification of graphite electrode

 

The main production processes of graphite electrodes are as follows:
(1) Calcination. Both petroleum coke or pitch coke need to be calcined, and the calcination temperature should reach 1300 ° C to fully remove the volatile matter contained in the carbonaceous raw material, and improve the true density, mechanical strength and electrical conductivity of coke.
(2) crushing, sieving and compounding. The calcined carbonaceous raw material is crushed and sieved into aggregate granules of a specified size, and some of the coke is ground into a fine powder, and the dry mixture constituting the various granules is collected after weighing according to the formula.
(3) Mixing. The dry mixture of the quantitative particles and the quantitative binder are stirred and kneaded in a heated state to knead the plastic paste.
(4) Forming, pressing the paste into a green electrode (green body) having a certain shape and a high density under the action of external pressure (extrusion molding) or high-frequency vibration (vibration molding).
(5) Calcination. The raw electrode is placed in a special baking furnace, and the raw electrode is filled and covered with metallurgical coke powder, and the binder is carbonized at a high temperature of about 1250 ° C to form a binder coke, thereby preparing a calcined carbon electrode.
(6) Impregnation. In order to increase the density and mechanical strength of the electrode product, the calcined electrode is placed in a high-pressure device, and the liquid impregnating pitch is pressed into the pores of the electrode. After the impregnation, it should be calcined once, and sometimes impregnated and re-fired according to product performance requirements. It needs to be repeated 2 to 3 times.
(7) Graphitization. The calcined carbon electrode is placed in a graphitization furnace, covered with a heat insulating material, and a high-temperature heating method is adopted to directly convert the carbon electrode into a graphite electrode having a graphite crystal structure at a high temperature of 2200 to 3000 °C.
(8) Mechanical processing. According to the requirements of use, the graphite electrode blank is subjected to surface turning, flat end face and screw hole processing for connection, and the joint for connection is processed.
(9) The graphite electrode is properly packaged and sent to the user after passing the inspection.

 

Raw materials used in the production of graphite electrode
(1) Raw materials for the production of artificial graphite electrodes. All of the low-ash raw materials such as petroleum coke and pitch coke can produce high-quality graphite electrodes. Bitumen coke is added to increase the strength of the product. Production of ordinary power - graphite electrode, can use the general quality of petroleum coke as raw material; production of high-power graphite electrode, using high-quality petroleum coke and part of needle coke; for the production of ultra-high-power graphite electrode, you must use high-quality needle coke as raw material, For the production of high-purity graphite electrodes, petroleum ash with very low ash content is required. In order to improve the lubricity and plasticity of the paste and improve the electrical conductivity of the product, a part of graphite is also added to the graphite electrode production ingredients.
(2) Raw materials for the production of natural graphite electrodes. Using selected natural graphite as raw material and coal asphalt as binder, it can produce natural graphite electrode without graphitization. However, such electrodes have a large electrical resistivity, low mechanical strength, and are easily broken during use.
(3) Raw materials for the production of regenerated graphite electrodes. The graphite material is added to the cutting debris or the waste product as a raw material, and after being pulverized, the regenerated graphite electrode can be produced, and the graphitization treatment is not required. The ash content of this type of electrode is less than 1%, the conductivity is worse than that of the artificial graphite electrode, and the resistivity is about 1.5 times that of the graphite electrode, but the effect is better than that of the natural graphite electrode.
