Steps to use:
- Before measuring blood pressure, it is best to leave the upper arm
bare, and not to roll up the long sleeves causing compression of
the blood vessels in the upper arm, which may result in inaccurate
blood pressure values;
- Take a seated position with the palm of the hand extended flat
upwards, elbow at heart level, upper arm at a 45°angle to the torso
and hands relaxed without clenching fists;
- Wrap the cuff flatly around the middle of the upper arm (not at the
elbow joint). The lower edge of the cuff should be approximately
1-2cm from the elbow socket and the cuff should be rolled tightly
enough to insert just one finger. If it is wrapped too tightly, the
blood pressure measured will be low; if it is too loose, it will be
high. The cuff's hose should be placed at the point of the brachial
artery beat;
- Do not talk and do not hold your breath while taking the blood
pressure, but breathe naturally;
- The blood pressure should be taken in one sitting and if not, the
cuff should be loosened, rested for 2 to 3 minutes and then
re-taken;
- If you find any abnormalities in your blood pressure during the
measurement, wait for a while before retaking it. The time between
measurements should not be less than 3 minutes, and the measurement
should be taken at the same place and in the same position.
- If the blood pressure in both arms is different, the blood pressure
in the left arm will usually be slightly higher than that in the
right arm, so the higher measurement should be used when recording.
- Patients with hypertension need to monitor their blood pressure
regularly, preferably at regular intervals, at regular sites and in
regular positions, and record the measured blood pressure values
for comparison and self-care.
