WHAT IS INDUCTION HARDENING?

Induction hardening is a form of heat treatment in which a metal part with sufficient carbon content is heated in the induction field and then rapidly cooled.  Induction hardening uses induction heating and rapid cooling (quenching) to increase the hardness and durability of steel. Induction is a non-contact process that produces intense, localized and controlled heat quickly. By induction, only the part to be hardened is heated. Optimal results are achieved by optimizing the heating cycle, frequency, and process parameters such as coil and quench design. Induction is used to harden many parts. Examples include: gears, crankshafts, camshafts, drive shafts, output shafts, torsion bars, rocker arms, valves, rock drills, slewing bearings, inner and outer rings.
