Coaxial cable

Coaxial cables can be divided into baseband coaxial cables and broadband coaxial cables (that is, network coaxial cables and video coaxial cables) according to their uses. There are two types of coaxial cables: 50Ω baseband cables and 75Ω broadband cables. Baseband cables are further divided into thin coaxial cables and thick coaxial cables. The baseband cable is used for digital transmission only, and the data rate can reach 10Mbps.

The coaxial cable has a hard copper wire as the core and is covered with a layer of insulating material. This layer of insulation is surrounded by a densely woven mesh of conductors that is covered with a layer of protective material. There are two widely used coaxial cables. One is a 50-ohm cable, which is used for digital transmission. It is also called a baseband coaxial cable because it is mostly used for baseband transmission; the other is a 75-ohm cable, which is used for analog transmission, that is, a broadband coaxial cable. This distinction is due to historical reasons, not technical reasons or manufacturers.

This structure of coaxial cable makes it have high bandwidth and excellent noise suppression characteristics. The bandwidth of a coaxial cable depends on the length of the cable. A 1km cable can achieve a data transfer rate of 1Gb/s~2Gb/s. Longer cables can also be used, but at a reduced transmission rate or with an intermediate amplifier. Currently, coaxial cable is largely replaced by optical fiber, but is still widely used in wired and wireless TV and some local area networks.

RF coaxial cable refers to a cable with two concentric conductors, and the conductor and shield share the same axis. The insulation material of radio frequency coaxial cable is made of radio frequency coaxial cable series (9 pieces) and is composed of physically fired polyethylene isolated copper wire conductor. Outside the inner layer of insulating material is another layer of ring conductor, that is, the outer conductor, and the outer conductor is made of copper tape. Formed, welded, braided; or in aluminum tube construction; or in braided construction, and then the entire cable is surrounded by a poly sheath.

At present, there are two types of commonly used RF coaxial cables: 50Ω and 75Ω RF coaxial cables.

The characteristic impedance 75Ω radio frequency coaxial cable is often used in CATV network, so it is called CATV cable, and the transmission bandwidth can reach 1GHz. At present, the transmission bandwidth of commonly used CATV cable is 750MHz.

The characteristic impedance 50Ω RF coaxial cable is mainly used for baseband signal transmission, the transmission bandwidth is 1-20MHz, the maximum transmission distance of the general characteristic impedance 50Ω thin coaxial cable is 180 meters, and the thick coaxial cable can reach 1000 meters.

Coaxial cable SYV—solid polyethylene insulation, PVC sheath, the national standard code is radio frequency cable—also called video cable. The physical properties of the insulating layer are different: SYV is 100% polyethylene filled, and the dielectric constant ε=2.2-2.4 or so ; And SYWV is also filled with polyethylene. The video cable generally referred to is TV cable, and it can also be used as a surveillance camera cable in the security field.
