Ferromanganese is an alloy composed of iron (Fe) and manganese (Mn). It is primarily used as a deoxidizing and alloying agent in the production of steel. The composition of ferromanganese can vary, but it typically contains around 75% to 80% manganese and 15% to 20% iron.
Ferromanganese function
1. Ferro Manganese is an alloy of Iron and manganese, with
manganese between 65.0%~90.0%, as deoxidizer and alloying element
additive. Divided into furnace ferromanganese and blast furnace
ferromanganese.
2. Main categories: high carbon ferromanganese (carbon 7%), medium
carbon ferromanganese
(carbon 1.0~1.5%), low carbon ferromanganese (0.5% carbon), metal
manganese, Spiegel, Silicon-manganese alloy.
3. The production of ferromanganese involves the smelting of manganese ore, iron ore, and coke in a blast furnace or an electric arc furnace. The high temperatures in these furnaces facilitate the reduction of manganese and iron oxides, resulting in the formation of the ferromanganese alloy.

Applications
Steel Production: Ferromanganese is primarily used as an alloying
agent in the production of steel. It is added to molten steel
during the steelmaking process to impart desirable properties. The
addition of ferromanganese helps improve the hardenability, tensile
strength, toughness, and abrasion resistance of steel. It also aids
in deoxidizing the molten steel, removing impurities such as oxygen
and sulfur, and enhancing the overall quality of the steel.
Foundry Industry: Ferromanganese is used in the foundry industry as
a nodularizer and desulfurizing agent. It helps improve the
castability and mechanical properties of iron castings by promoting
the formation of graphite nodules and reducing the sulfur content
in the molten iron.
