Description
Metric DIN 982 nylon insert lock nuts are prevailing torque type
lock nuts which have a permanent undersized non metallic
insert (nylon/polyamide) that produces friction between threads of
mated components thereby increasing the resistance to
loosening forces. DIN 982 is similar in dimensions to DIN 985
except that the total height of DIN 982 nuts a greater. Nylon
insert lock nuts may be re-used a limited number of times because
the threads of the mating bolt deform but do not cut into
the polymer insert. These nuts are considered one-way lock nuts
because they can only be installed one-way—top up. The
nylon insert limits the use at elevated temperatures or when

The following sizes of metric DIN 985 nylon insert lock nuts are
available for immediate shipping from stock: Diameters
ranging from M4 to M24 in A2 and marine grade A4 stainless steel as
well as brass and steel.
When the nut is screwed onto the thread, the plastic ring is
plastically and elastically deformed. The elastic part causes a
radially acting, frictional lock that prevents the nut loosening.
The plastic thread lock is only effective when the hex nut is
completely on the screw. The length of the screw should be selected
so that at least two threads protrude from the nut.
Due to the plastic deformation of the thread lock, this hex nut may
only be used once.

Hexagon nut incorporating a nylon insert to help prevent loosening when fitted. This is the higher profile (Type P) variant with more available thread engagement and is typically fitted with a spanner or ratchet with socket. insert compresses to securely fasten the nut against the bolt,

etc. For any application involving marine (salt water), use A4 /
316 Stainless Steel material, available in bulk packs and as a
special order.
Nylon lock nuts will not damage the threads a bolt or screw. Nylon
