Coasters are essential to protect your surface from dripping water, dents and hot cups. These cork coasters will protect your surface, while natural cork stoppers are the icing on the cake for today's modern, clean appearance.
"Quercus suber"
The cork oak tree is covered with thick knotty bark, which may have
been developed to survive forest fires. This is the source of cork.
After harvesting, the bark is peeled off and cut from the tree, and
then left to rest on the tree. The bark will eventually grow back,
and it can be harvested every nine to twelve years. Healthy cork
oak with a lifespan of 200 years can be harvested up to 16 times.
Portugal has the largest number of cork oak trees in the world, and
subsequently became the world leader in cork production. These
trees can also be found in most areas of southwestern Europe and
northwestern Africa. Cork oaks usually appear at the same time as
many other tree species, such as wild olive, marine pine, stone
pine and other oaks. The mosaic of the cork oak forest promotes the
entire biodiversity, allowing many plants and animals to use their
habitat, including endangered animals such as the Barbary Macaque,
Barbary Deer, Iberian Imperial Eagle and Iberian Lynx.
If managed correctly, cork can be a profitable renewable wood
product. Felled cork oaks store five times more carbon than
unharvested oaks because they use more carbon to regenerate the
bark. Cork forest is not only a valuable biodiversity reserve, but
also a necessary carbon sink.
Hope to obtain renewable resources!
