What is CNC turning?

• The workpiece remains on the spindle while rotating at high speed.
• The cutting tool or center drill tracks the outer or inner circumference of the part to form a geometric shape.
• The tool does not rotate and moves in polar directions (radial and longitudinal).
CNC lathes are widely used because they can produce parts at a higher speed and at a lower unit cost than CNC milling machines. This is especially important for larger volumes.
The main design limitation of CNC lathes is that they can only produce parts with cylindrical profiles (think screws or washers). To overcome this limitation, part features are usually CNC milled in a separate machining step. Alternatively, a 5-axis turn-milling composite center can be used to produce the same geometry in one step

The characteristics of CNC lathe processing are:

3. High production efficiency. CNC lathe processing can be in a clamping processing of multiple machining surface, generally only the first detection, can save the ordinary lathe processing in many intermediate processes, such as scribing, size detection, reduce auxiliary time.

4. Facilitate the development and transformation of new products. CNC lathe processing generally does not require a lot of complex process equipment. The parts with complex shapes and high precision requirements can be processed by compiling machining programs. When the product is revamped and the design is changed, only the program is changed, without the need to redesign the tooling.
