Vertical activation furnace

An activation furnace, in the context of carbon materials, typically refers to a specialized furnace used in the process of activating carbon or carbonaceous materials to enhance their porosity and surface area. This process is known as "carbon activation" or "chemical activation."

Carbon activation involves heating carbon materials, such as coal, wood, or coconut shells, at elevated temperatures in the presence of an activating agent, usually a chemical compound like potassium hydroxide (KOH) or phosphoric acid (H3PO4). The activation process removes impurities and creates a highly porous structure within the carbon material, resulting in increased surface area and improved adsorption properties.

The activation furnace is designed to provide the necessary conditions for the activation process. Key features of an activation furnace may include:

High-Temperature Operation: Activation furnaces operate at elevated temperatures, typically in the range of 700 to 1000 degrees Celsius, to facilitate the activation process.

Controlled Atmosphere: The activation process may require the use of specific gas atmospheres, such as steam or inert gases like nitrogen, to control the chemical reactions and prevent unwanted oxidation or combustion of the carbon material.

Retort or Reactor Design: The furnace may contain a retort or reactor vessel where the carbon material and activating agent are loaded. The design ensures efficient heat transfer and uniform exposure of the carbon material to the activating agent.

Heating Mechanism: The activation furnace utilizes heating elements, such as electric resistive elements or burners, to generate the required heat for the activation process.

Exhaust Systems: As the activation process may release gases or volatile compounds, the furnace is equipped with exhaust systems to remove byproducts and maintain a controlled environment.

Based on the Japanese horizontal furnace and combined with the waste activated carbon regeneration process, an activation furnace suitable for waste activated carbon regeneration was developed. The waste carbon after high-temperature carbonization in the front line is evenly sent into the activation furnace through the feeding blower. There is a natural gas burner to heat up. Under the combustion stimulation of the burner, the organic matter adsorbed in the waste carbon is volatilized, and the furnace temperature is instantly raised to about 900, so that the waste carbon burns naturally in the furnace. Depending on the working conditions, Exit the burner to save natural gas energy consumption. When an appropriate amount of water vapor is introduced, the waste carbon activates and regenerates under the mixing effect of high temperature and water vapor.
