wind turbines. When the wind flows, like a river, there are areas
of rotation and disturbance that prevent the wind from flowing
continuously. This is the same turbulence you might encounter on an
airplane. Wind turbines can be affected if wind turbulence is
excessive and causes damage to the system. Because most home wind
turbines are low off the ground turbulence is a minimal problem.
You can avoid turbulence by placing the turbines correctly.
2. Does a wind turbine operate all the time?
No. Wind turbines operate when wind speed is above the cut-in value
of about 3 to 4 meters per second (m/s), and typically shut down if
the wind exceeds the cut-out speed, such as during typhoons and
other storms with heavy winds. The cut-in, cut-out and rated wind
speeds vary by model.
