Over the years, large-scale themed China has blossomed in China,
Disney opened in Shanghai, the world's second largest theme park,
Universal Studios, settled in Beijing, and the third largest theme
park, Paramount, is expected to settle in Shenzhen... China's
urbanization is increasingly coming The deeper the theme park is.
American scholar Michel Deer named the new urbanization form "a
city as a theme park." Traditional urbanization is represented by
New York and Chicago, and “city as a theme park” is represented by
Los Angeles and Orlando. The former is urbanization dominated by
industrialization and financialization, while the latter is
shifting to new urbanization in the form of leisure cities,
entertainment cities and dream cities. At present, China is moving
from an industrial society to an urban society, an entertainment
society, and a consumer society. Dealing with the relationship
between “the theme park” and urbanization, and creating a “park
economy” Chinese model is of great significance for promoting urban
renewal and transformation.
It is understood that in the last century, China has three wave of
investment in theme parks, but more than two-thirds of them cannot
recover their investment. The lessons are very profound.
Since 2000, China’s theme parks have ushered in the fourth attack.
In 2015 alone, 21 theme parks were opened, and another 20 were
under construction. The development of theme parks represented by
OCT, Huaqiang Fante, Changlong and Wanda gradually formed branding,
large investment, multi-echelon, chain, Grouped operation pattern.
It is predicted that China will overtake the United States in 2020
and become the world's largest theme park market. By then, the
number of visitors will reach 221 million, twice as much as in
2015.
Unlike the previous three craze, the fourth theme park investment
fever is not only the development and construction scale is
greater, the brand replication ability is stronger, the theme type
and location distribution are more diverse, the cultural
reproduction and industrial clusters are continuously improved, and
the theme park The investment construction has become the
"acceleration engine" of urbanization. To some extent, it can be
said that the “park economy” that is accompanied by rapid
urbanization is presenting a unique “Chinese model”.
However, there are also some problems and challenges in the
development of China's “park city”:
First of all, it is homogenization. "Homogeneity" is not only the
main reason for the investment in the previous wave of theme parks,
but also the culprit of the current urban space. Most large-scale
theme parks claim to create "China's Disney", but the model of
foreign style, lack of unique theme packaging and "bare metal
operation" (direct import of large-scale amusement facilities from
abroad, or even rough copy) will inevitably lead to recession. Many
cities in the construction of large-scale theme parks, blindly on
the project without deepening the local economic and social
background and cultural characteristics, these "theft of dream
space"-style urbanization always have a wake-up time.
Second, rough. Many theme parks and urban developments do not
advocate creation, but prefer to copy, and gaudy architecture has
become a new landscape in many cities. This type of building has
the distinction between China and the West. The Western style is
represented by the "European style" and the Chinese style is based
on the pursuit of Feng Shui. Both of them have given birth to
surreal buildings, making the "Disneyization" and stage-style
buildings that pass through time and space become popular. The
reason is not to understand the construction background of other
countries' buildings, not to understand the cultural connotations
of other countries, but only from the appearance and image, it is
inevitable to bring "singularly strange" aesthetic distortion.
The third is property. “Park + Real Estate” has become a mainstream
model for the development of many theme parks. In order to control
the development of real estate in the name of tourism development,
the state and local authorities have introduced various rules and
regulations. How to grasp the "reasonable degree" of theme park
development, deal with the problem of land resource utilization and
its external benefits, and avoid the theme park becoming a victim
of capital gains. It is a problem that the theme park development
has to consider in the new situation.
Under the new historical conditions, the development of “park
economy” needs a higher and more broad vision. It needs to change
from simple park development to deepening the integration of
tourism and urban and regional development, which in turn will
drive the transformation of regional economy and upgrade.
First, promote the “Gang→Garden→City→Base” mode. Take a dinosaur
park as an example, the space expansion and integration of “Chinese
Dinosaur Museum (30 acres) → Changzhou Dinosaur Park (590 acres) →
Universal Dinosaur City (4500 acres) → Creative Industry Base
(12,000 acres)” brings tourism space And the continuous production
and superposition of urban space, forming the evolution path of the
Chinese “park city”. It has transformed the theme park from a
single independent attraction into a large-scale tourism complex
and urban industrial community, and is becoming the leading
development model for domestic theme parks. (
Second, the “park economy” will drive the transformation of cities
with scarce tourism resources. For those cities where monopolistic
tourism resources are relatively scarce, such as Nanchang in
Jiangxi and Wuhu in Anhui, the paradise economy can be an important
catalyst for promoting economic restructuring and upgrading. At the
same time, the relevant theme parks are usually located in the
urban-rural junction and can serve as pioneers in urbanization and
economic development. To this end, the development and construction
of theme parks should take care of promoting land use, supply and
demand and investment value-added in the surrounding areas.
