Alloy 4340 is characterized by its excellent ductility, formability, and weldability, making it an excellent metal for a variety of structural applications and assemblies, including power transmission gears and shafts, aircraft parts, and machinery. 4340 steel is mainly iron based, nickel is another major chemistry.
