Roofing Felt Paper for Asphalt Shingles Roofing Underlayment
Introduction:
Felt paper is one of the most common types of underlayment, which is used in residential, steep-slope roofs. It is black, asphalt-saturated felt paper, made from organic felt impregnated with high quality asphalt. Felt paper is water-resistant. It is available in two different specification: ASTM D4869 and ASTM D226. Both ASTM D4869 and ASTM D226 has two specifications: No.15 and No.30.
Applications:
It is widely used as underlayment under asphalt shingles, wood shakes, tiles and other sloped roofs.
Function:
It offers three specific types of protection: first, it acts as a water barrier; second, it stops shingles from leaking chemicals onto the roof deck, which can cause a great deal of damage; finally, it provides an additional layer of protection against heat and sound wave penetration.
Benefits:
1. Roofing felt paper is heavier weight roll.
2. It is much more labor-intensive to install, and given its weight and the fact that it often has a slippery surface.
3. It is affordable material. Economical and long lasting.
