Description:

 

OPGW-Optical Fiber Composite Overhead Ground Wire. The optical fiber is placed in the ground wire of the overhead high-voltage transmission line to form an optical fiber communication network on the transmission line. This structural form has the dual functions of ground wire and communication, and is generally called OPGW optical cable.

 

 

Structure:

There are three main categories:

  1. aluminum tube type,
  2. aluminum frame type,
  3. (stainless) steel tube type.

 

Introduction:

 

Optical fiber utilizes the difference in refractive index between the core and cladding materials to enable light to be transmitted in the optical fiber, which has become a major revolution in the history of communications. The optical fiber cable is light in weight and small in size, and has been adopted by the power system to transmit information such as dispatch telephones, telecontrol signals, relay protection, and television images between the substation and the central dispatch station. In order to improve the stability and reliability of fiber optic cables, foreign countries have developed a composite structure in which the phase conductors of the optical cable and the transmission line, the overhead ground wire, and the power cable are integrated. The OPGW optical cable is more reliable, stable and firm due to the metal wire wrapping. Because the overhead ground wire and the optical cable are integrated, compared with other optical cables, the construction period is shortened and the construction cost is saved. In addition, if the OPGW twisted by aluminum clad steel wire or aluminum alloy wire is used, it is equivalent to setting up a good conductor overhead ground wire, which can receive the reduction of the potential supply current of the transmission line, the reduction of the power frequency overvoltage, and the improvement of the power line to the communication line. Interference and dangerous effects, etc. Due to its anti-electromagnetic interference, light weight and other characteristics, the optical fiber can be installed on the top of the transmission line tower without having to consider the optimal mounting position and electromagnetic corrosion. Therefore, OPGW has remarkable features such as higher reliability, superior mechanical performance, and lower cost. This technique is particularly suitable and economical when laying or replacing existing ground wires.

 

 

Application:


OPGW optical cable is mainly used on 500KV, 220KV and 110KV voltage level lines. It is mostly used on new lines due to the influence of line power outage and safety.

The applicable characteristics of OPGW are:

(1) The line with high voltage exceeding 110kv has a large gear distance (generally above 250M);

(2) Easy to maintain, easy to solve the problem of line crossing, its mechanical characteristics can meet the large line crossing;

(3) The outer layer of OPGW is metal armor, which has no effect on high voltage electrical corrosion and degradation;

(4) OPGW must be powered off during construction, and the power loss is large, so OPGW should be used in new high-voltage lines above 110kv;

(5) In the performance index of OPGW, the greater the short-circuit current, the more need to use a good conductor as armor, the tensile strength will be reduced accordingly, and in the case of a certain tensile strength, to increase the short-circuit current capacity, only increase The metal cross-sectional area leads to an increase in cable diameter and cable weight, which poses a safety issue for the strength of the line tower.
