Ceramic materials

a rather modern development in medical processes and applications.
Used in surgical implants, prosthetics and various medical tools
and devices, medical ceramics change lives. Manufacturers fabricate numerous ceramic medical
appliances from the oxides alumina and zirconia. Some medical

Medical Ceramic Applications
Some common applications include:
Alumina is generally composed of an aluminum and oxygen compound and is employed in medical ceramic applications because it is typically well tolerated by body tissue. It is also suitable as a surgical implant because it is a very tough and hard material, and does not wear easily. Alumina is generally composed of minuscule tightly packed crystals. The composition results in a ceramic product that is fracture resistant, which is crucial to safety as well as the maximum wear of an implant.
During the initial production of alumina medical ceramics in the 1970s, the crystals were arranged more loosely, susceptible to breaks and fracture problems in the medical implants. The hot isostatic pressure process is used to prevent such structure flaws. Also, each manufacturer inspects the individual products before they are employed as medical devices.
The hot isostatic pressure process improves the physical structure and capability of ceramics by extracting impurities from the material via application of an inert gas. Once the parts are dense enough from the gas exposure, (usually processed in a chamber) they are suitable for medical applications, though all products are inspected before they are supplied to medical resources.
Injection molding is a process that involves producing parts (usually metals and ceramics) that are intricate in design, such as dental brackets. This process is executed by molding machines, and numerous devices are capable of being produced in a short time-frame. Injection molding is considered a good alternative to previous processing, as standard stamping and machining techniques of the past took more time and expense.
Alumina ceramic screws/nuts and bolts are used in applications where conventional metal or plastic components will not work. Ceramic nuts and bolts are strong, rigid, non-magnetic and operate at high temperature and in corrosive environments.
