This is a Y cable with 3 ends of an OBD2 male plug, a replacement
Volkswagen OBD2 female connector and a normal OBD2 female
connector.
The overmolded plastic injection part at the ends of 16-Pin OBD2
OBDII female and male connectors makes the cable come out straight.
We can make different overmolds for the ends of OBD2 OBDII female and male connectors. If you don’t like the overmolds at the ends of OBD2 OBDII female and male connectors as shown in the pictures or you would like to have your own overmold with your company’s logo or you have special application requirements, we can and we have the ability to make a new overmold for you with reasonable charge. Moreover, we can even make it for free as long as the order quantity is 5000 pcs or more.
Pin assignment or pin out
The pin assignment or pin out can be like this:
OBD2 male plug | Volkswagen OBD2 female connector | normal OBD2 female connector |
1 | 1 | / |
2 | 2 | 2 |
3 | 3 | / |
4+5 | 4+5 | 4+5 |
6 | 6 | 6 |
7 | 7 | 7 |
8 | 8 | / |
9 | 9 | / |
10 | 10 | 10 |

15 | 15 | 15 |
16 | 16 | 16 |
As to this pin out, Pin 4 and Pin 5 of the OBD2 OBDII male and
female connectors are connected together with a short wire. The
black wire in the main cable is connected to Pin 4 or Pin 5. There
are 9 pins wired, but there are 8 wires of 26AWG in the cable
from OBD2 male plug to normal OBD2 female connector. All 16 pins
of OBD2 male plug to Volkswagen OBD2 female connector are
wired, so there are 16 wires of 26AWG in the cable from OBD2 male
plug to Volkswagen OBD2 female connector.
The pin assignment or pin out can also be like this:
OBD2 male plug | Volkswagen OBD2 female connector | normal OBD2 female connector |
1 | 1 | 1 |
2 | 2 | 2 |
3 | 3 | 3 |
4 | 4 | 4 |
5 | 5 | 5 |
6 | 6 | 6 |
7 | 7 | 7 |
8 | 8 | 8 |
9 | 9 | 9 |
10 | 10 | 10 |

13 | 13 | 13 |
14 | 14 | 14 |
15 | 15 | 15 |
16 | 16 | 16 |
As to this pin out, all 16 pins of the OBD2 OBD male and female
connectors are wired, so there are 16 wires of 26AWG in
both cables.
The pin assignment or pin out can also be customized according to
your needs.
Application
This Y cable is used to connect telematics, IoV devices, fleet management devices, OBD2 GPS
trackers, OBD2 CAN programming tools, ECU tuning tools or car
performance tuning tools to vehicles' 16-Pin OBD2 female
diagnostic ports.
This OBD2 OBDII Y Cable allows port relocation or connection of
multiple telematics or IoV devices. Take the original Volkswagen
OBD2 female diagnostic port off its original location with tools if
necessary and then insert the OBD2 male plug at the end of this
OBD2 Y cable into the original Volkswagen OBD2 female diagnostic
port. Install the replacement Volkswagen OBD2 female connector at
one end of the Y ends back to the original location of the OBD2
female diagnostic port in the car. Then you can connect a
telematics or IoV device to the common OBD2 female connector at the
other end of the Y ends. You can also connect another telematics or
tuning device to the OBD2 female connector which was installed at
the original location or leave this OBD2 female connector available
for diagnostic use in the future.
This cable can also be used to connect OBD2 diagnostic devices or
scanners or fault code readers (with the appropriate software).
