Standard

 

It is based on the ISO4589-1 Plastics-determination of burning behaviour by oxygen index-part1:Guidance and the ISO4589-1 Plastics-determination of burning behaviour by oxygen index-part1:Ambient-temperature test.

 

Application

 

The apparatus is suitable for the test of oxygen index combustion and the specimen which the thickness of the specimen is less than 10.5mm can stand upright and self-braced in the oxygen and nitrogen mixed flow under the specified test conditions.The test place where the minimum oxygen concentration index required for combustion of the sample is maintained. It is also applicable to the sample with apparent density greater than 100kg/m homogeneous solid material, laminated material or foam material, and some foam materials whose apparent density is less than 100kg/m in oxygen and nitrogen mixed flow under specified test conditions.The test site where the minimum oxygen concentration index required for combustion of the sample is maintained.

Installation

 

1.Users should read the ISO4589-1 standard carefully, be familiar with and master the requirements of various test indexes in the standard, understand the composition of the equipment, and know how the equipment meets the requirements of the parameters.

In this test, the adjustment of the operator's operation method and parameters has a great influence on the test results. The tester should read the standard carefully and operate strictly according to the requirements and steps of the standard in order to make the test repeatable.

2.The control box of the sample equipment is placed on a suitable operating table and the combustion cylinder is placed in a sealed box with an exhaust fan. Connecte the combustion cylinder and the thermocouple in control box and the connection of the electric heating tube, the connection line between the semiconductor cooler and the control box,Connect control box 220V power supply.

 

 

3.A rubber tube is used to connect the low-pressure end of the pressure relief valve on the oxygen cylinder to the interface on the control box, and the connection between the low-pressure end of the pressure relief valve on the nitrogen cylinder and the interface on the control box.A plastic pipe with random attachment 8MM is used to connect the fast interface in the control box and under the combustion cylinder.

 

 

4.Insert the head of the thermocouple temperature sensor (about 2MM blue wire in diameter) into a small hole in the aluminum plate under the cylinder.

 

 

5.When the power supply of the equipment is turned on, the temperature sensor, heating and refrigeration system work automatically, and the temperature of the combustion cylinder reaches 23 ℃ ±2 ℃.It can rotate the oxygen on the control panel and adjust the pressure button of the nitrogen pressure reducer, and observe the pressure gauge on the panel to make the oxygen on the panel and the nitrogen pressure gauge 0.1MP.

 

 

6.The random attachment perforated plate and metal mesh are mounted into the combustion cylinder.To the human glass beads, install the upper layer porous plate metal mesh. According to the sample to be tested, select the appropriate sample fixture to be installed on the support rod to be used.

Determination of Total flow rate of mixed gases

 

 

7.The standard specifies that the flow rate of the mixed gas in the combustion cylinder is 40±2mm/s.

In formula:Q: mixture gas flow rate V: mixture gas velocity S: combustion cylinder section area

The diameter of the combustion cylinder of the equipment is 80 mm.

Q=0.04²xπx0,04x60x1000=12.05±0.6L/MIN

(if the diameter of the cylinder changes, the total flow rate of the mixture needs to be recalculated)

 

 

8.Adjust oxygen adjusting knob, make oxygen flow to 12.05L/MIN under 0.1MP pressure.The indicating value of mass Flowmeter is 12.05. When the temperature on the thermometer is stable at 23 ℃ ±2 ℃, the indicating value of the oxygen content meter should be adjusted to 99.8-99.9, which can be adjusted by the small variable resistance on the oxygen content table with the small opener of random attachment.

By turning off the oxygen adjusting button and opening the nitrogen adjusting knob, the nitrogen flow rate can reach 12.05 L / min under 0.1MP pressure, that is, the indicating value of mass Flowmeter is 12.05. When the temperature on the thermometer is stable at 23 ℃ ±2 ℃, the value of oxygen content meter should be expressed as 0-0.1.

 

Examination

 

1. Prepare 15 or more samples according to standard.

Preparation of Sample

Preparation of Self-braced material samples

Using the random appendage dumbbell knife to cut out the self brace material which needs to be tested into 15 pieces or more with the punching machine or use other methods to cut out 15 pieces of self supported material or more to be used.

Preparation of non-self-braced material samples

Cut samples of non-self-braced materials to 15 pieces or more of 140x50mm specimen by scissors or other methods.

 

2. Select the appropriate specimen fixture according to the standard and install it to the support frame in the combustion cylinder.

 

3.Install the specimen, cover the glass tube, and cover the upper end of the flow cover.

 

4 .According to the test program, the mixture gas with 12 L/MIN flow rate, the oxygen pressure on the control panel and the nitrogen pressure are 0.1 MP.The flow rate of oxygen and nitrogen is determined by the known and unknown oxygen index of the sample.

 

When the oxygen index of the material is known and needs to be confirmed by combustion and if the known oxygen index is 25,according to the standard, the length of the flame spreading down is recorded by stopwatch. If the spreading time is not enough or the flame is extinguished in the way, the oxygen should be increased, and the nitrogen should be increased.

 

When the oxygen index of the material is unknown, it is necessary to start with an oxygen index of 18:

 

Take the initial oxygen content value as 18,0,the total flow rate of the mixed gas is 12.05 L / min.Observe the the temperature of controller on the control panel whether if it is at 23 ℃ ±2 ℃, the temperature of the mixture gas is stable to 23 ℃ ±2 ℃, and the sample is ignited after 30 S.According to the standard, the length of the flame spreading down is recorded by stopwatch. If the spreading time is not enough or the flame is extinguished in the way, the oxygen should be increased, and the nitrogen should be increased.

 

5.It is observed whether the indication temperature of the thermometer on the control panel is at 23 ℃ ±2 ℃.if the temperature is lower than 23 ℃ ±2 ℃, the heating button should be opened to heat the mixture gas, so that the mixture gas can be ignited at 23 ℃ ±2 ℃.If the temperature of the mixture gas is 23 ℃ ±2 ℃, the sample should be ignited after 30 S.

 

6. A igniter withф2mm nozzle is installed (butane tank shall be purchased by the user) . Adjust the amount of gas in the butane area and ignite the nozzle flame so that the length of the flame is 16 ±4 mm and the specimen is ignited according to the method and time prescribed by the standard.

 

7. If the specimen cannot be ignited, increase the flow of oxygen, or reduce the flow of nitrogen at the same time. As required by the standard, increasing the oxygen concentration of the mixture.Whether oxygen is added or reduced, the same amount of nitrogen should be reduced or increased simultaneously to ensure that the total flow rate of the mixture is maintained at 12.05 L / min.

 

8.Burning: After igniting, the combustion time was recorded with stopwatch and the combustion length was observed, and the combustion performance of a single sample was evaluated according to the standard.

 

9. Determine an increase or decrease in the oxygen concentration of the mixed gas based on a single test, and proceed with the next test.

 

10. According to the requirements and steps of the standard, complete the test of the remaining samples, calculate the K value, and according to the standard deviation of the sample.
