Functions and Features

DX1 boards can receive, transmit, and process Nx64 kbit/s, framed E1, G.703 64 kbit/s co-directional, sub-rate, 2-/4-wire audio, and E&M relay services.

Table 1 and Table 2 provide the functions and features of the DX1.

  • Works with the interface board to receive and process eight channels of sub-rate services. Synchronous/Asynchronous (2.4 kbit/s, 4.8 kbit/s, 9.6 kbit/s, 19.2 kbit/s and 48 kbit/s) services can be encapsulated in X.50 D3 mode.
  • Cross-connects 48 channels of E1 signals at the 64 kbit/s level on the system side.

Port
  • External ports: DDN-1 to DDN-16, representing 16 external ports. External ports are provided by DM12 interface boards.
    • Framed E1 ports: With their IDs ranging from 1 to 8, they are E1 ports 1 to 8 on the DM12 board with a smaller slot ID in each DM12 pair.
    • Nx64 kbit/s or sub-rate ports: Their IDs range from 9 to 16. In each DM12 pair, ports DDN1 to DDN4 on the DM12 board with a smaller slot ID are numbered 9 to 12, and those on the DM12 board with a larger slot ID are numbered 13 to 16.
  • Internal ports: 2M-1 to 2M-48, representing 48 E1 internal ports which use timeslots 1-31 (PCM30 (CAS) does not support timeslot 16), with port IDs being 65 to 112.
Service processing
  • One DX1 board can work with two DM12 boards.
  • Transmits/Receives eight channels of Nx64 kbit/s and eight channels of framed E1 services, or eight channels of sub-rate services and eight channels of framed E1 services and implements 1:N TPS protection when working with the DM12.
  • Processes PCM conference services.
NOTE:

Nx64 kbit/s services, sub-rate services, and framed E1 services use the following ports:

  • Sub-rate services: X.21/V.11, V.35, V.24/V.28, RS-232, RS-485, and RS-422 ports
  • Nx64 kbit/s services: X.21/V.11, V.35, V.24/V.28, RS-449, RS-530, and RS-530A ports
  • Framed E1 services: framed E1 ports
Alarms and performance eventsReports various alarms and performance events, which facilitates the management and maintenance of the equipment.
Maintenance features
  • Supports inloops and outloops at electrical interfaces.
  • Supports the PRBS function. For details, see Availability.
  • Supports the CRC function.
ConnectorsThe DB28 connector is used for the Nx64 kbit/s and sub-rate signals, and the DB44 connector is used for the framed E1 signals. The DB28 connectors and DB44 connectors are present on the front panel of the DM12.

    • FXS port RX Gain (dB): -6.0 to 5.0, in steps of 0.5.
    • FXO port TX Gain (dB): -16.5 to 13.5, in steps of 0.5.
    • FXO port RX Gain (dB): -16.5 to 11.0, in steps of 0.5.
    • 2-wire/4-wire audio port TX Gain (dB): -20.0 to 1.5, in steps of 0.5.
    • 2-wire/4-wire audio port RX Gain (dB): -7.0 to 14.0, in steps of 0.5.
  • Cross-connects 63 channels of E1 signals at the 64 kbit/s level on the system side.

To configure hotline services, Z interface extension services, or 2- or 4-wire audio and E&M trunk services on N3DX1 boards, set Working Mode of ports to PCM30 (CAS).

Port
  • External ports: DDN-1 to DDN-32, representing 32 external ports. External ports are provided by one pair of DM12 interface boards and one N3DX1 board.
    • If cables are connected only to the DM12 pair:
      • Framed E1 ports: With their IDs ranging from 1 to 8, they are E1 ports 1 to 8 on the DM12 board with a smaller slot ID in each DM12 pair.
      • Nx64 kbit/s or sub-rate ports: Their IDs range from 9 to 16. In each DM12 pair, ports DDN1 to DDN4 on the DM12 board with a smaller slot ID are numbered 9 to 12, and those on the DM12 board with a larger slot ID are numbered 13 to 16.

        Sub-rate ports: synchronous/asynchronous (0.6 kbit/s, 1.2 kbit/s, 2.4 kbit/s, 4.8 kbit/s, 9.6 kbit/s, 19.2 kbit/s, 38.4 kbit/s, and 48 kbit/s) and synchronous (56 kbit/s). The ports can receive and process other types of sub-rate services by means of over-sampling, only if the ports are configured as synchronous and the to-be-receive sub-rate service rate is four or more times of the port access rate.

      • G.703 64 kbit/s codirectional ports: With their IDs ranging from 17 to 24, they are E1 ports 1 to 8 on the DM12 board with a larger slot ID in each DM12 pair.
    • If cables are connected only to the N3DX1 board:
      • RS-485 (asynchronous sub-rate) ports: With their IDs being 25 and 26, they are RS-485 ports on the N3DX1 board. For sub-rate services, the port access rate is 0.6 kbit/s, 1.2 kbit/s, 2.4 kbit/s, 4.8 kbit/s, 9.6 kbit/s, 19.2 kbit/s, 38.4 kbit/s, or 48 kbit/s
      • RS-232 (asynchronous sub-rate) ports: With their IDs being 27 and 28, they are RS-232 ports on the N3DX1 board. For sub-rate services, the port access rate is 0.6 kbit/s, 1.2 kbit/s, 2.4 kbit/s, 4.8 kbit/s, 9.6 kbit/s, 19.2 kbit/s, 38.4 kbit/s, or 48 kbit/s.
      • FXS/FXO ports: With their IDs being 29 and 30, they are ports FXSO 1 and FXSO 2 on the N3DX1 board, respectively.
      • E&M and 2- or 4-wire ports: With their IDs being 31 and 32, they are ports EM 1 and EM 2 on the N3DX1 board, respectively.
  • Internal ports: 2M-1 to 2M-63, representing 63 E1 internal ports which use timeslots 1-31 (PCM30 (CAS) does not support timeslot 16), with port IDs being 65 to 127.

Figure 1 shows the internal and external ports of an N3DX1 board.
Service processing
  • One N3DX1 board needs to work with two DM12 boards to transmit/receive eight channels of sub-rate services or eight channels of Nx64 kbit/s services, eight channels of framed E1 services, and eight channels of G.703 64 kbit/s codirectional services
  • Transmits/Receives eight channels of PCM services with ports available on the front panel.
  • Cross-connects 63 channels of E1 signals at the 64 kbit/s level on the system side.
  • Cross-connects E1 services and sub-rate services as well as 8 kbit/s E1 services but does not cross-connect 8 kbit/s sub-rate services.
  • Sub-rate services: X.21/V.11, V.35, V.24/V.28, RS-232, RS-485, and RS-422 ports.

    Supports the encapsulation of sub-rate services in X.50 D3 mode and V.110 mode.

    • Synchronous/Asynchronous (2.4 kbit/s, 4.8 kbit/s, 9.6 kbit/s, 19.2 kbit/s and 48 kbit/s) services can be encapsulated in X.50 D3 mode.

    • Synchronous/Asynchronous (0.6 kbit/s, 1.2 kbit/s, 2.4 kbit/s, 4.8 kbit/s, 9.6 kbit/s, 19.2 kbit/s and 38.4 kbit/s) and synchronous (48 kbit/s and 56 kbit/s) services can be encapsulated in V.110 mode.

  • Nx64 kbit/s services: X.21/V.11, V.35, V.24/V.28, RS-449, RS-530, and RS-530A ports.
  • E&M signaling: Bell V-type signaling
    NOTE:
    An N3DX1 board does not support E&M signaling when the NE uses UPM boards.
  • N3DX1 supports the association of signaling and services.
    • None: not associate.

    • Signaling Reception: When the port reception status M wire is idle, the audio services sent to the cross-connection side are invalid; when the M wire is busy, the audio services are valid.

    • Signaling Transmission: When the audio services received from the cross-connect side are invalid, the port transmission status E wire is idle; when the services are valid, the E wire is busy.

    • Signaling Reception and Transmission: associates signaling with services in both the receive and transmit directions.

Alarms and performance eventsReports various alarms and performance events, which facilitates the management and maintenance of the equipment.

Connectors

  • When not working with an interface board, N3DX1 boards receive RS-232 and RS-485 sub-rate signals using their RJ45 connectors.
  • When not working with an interface board, N3DX1 boards receive analog voice signals using their RJ11 connectors.
