UMG8900 MOMU in the SSM-256 frame

The UMG8900 converts service bearers, enables interworking between bearers, and processes service stream formats. It is a core network device in global system for mobile communications solutions of  It can help carriers to build a low-cost, profitable, and future-oriented communication network.

The UMG8900 provides powerful networking functions and abundant services. It can serve as various functional entities to meet networking requirements of carriers.

The UMG8900 is oriented to:

  • Service bearer device in a local exchange in the GSM network.
  • Service bearer device in a tandem/toll exchange in the GSM network.
  • Service bearer device in a gateway exchange in the GSM network.
  • Visited mobile switching center (VMSC), tandem mobile switching center (TMSC), or gateway mobile switching center (GMSC) in the GSM network by working with the media gateway controller MSOFTX3000 of upporting function integration.
  • VMSC, TMSC, or GMSC in the universal mobile telecommunications system (UMTS) R99 network by working with the MGC of supporting function integration.
  • Media gateway (MGW) in the UMTS R4 network.
  • IP multimedia-MGW (IM-MGW) in the UMTS R5 and later IP multimedia subsystem (IMS) networks.
  • The UMG8900 is used with the UGC3200 for networking, and acts as the bearer device in the integrated tandem exchange or integrated gateway exchange.

The UMG8900 can network with the MGC of o support various basic, supplementary, and value-added services in the traditional GSM network. In addition, new services can be introduced quickly and easily due to the separated architecture of the UMG8900.
