Corundum mullite brick (corundum-mullite brick) refers to a high-alumina refractory product composed of main crystal phases of corundum and mullite. The crystals of corundum are short columnar and barrel-shaped, and they are not interspersed or staggered in the refractory structure. Interlaced columnar crystals of mullite are embedded between the corundum crystals to effectively prevent the slip of the corundum crystals and obtain a stable structure. Because the crystal structure is more stable, it is more conducive to the excellent performance of mullite or mullite and corundum, such as melting point: mullite 1870℃, corundum 2050℃, the eutectic temperature of the two is higher, 1840℃, which is beneficial Improvement and enhancement of high temperature performance of materials.

Corundum mullite bricks refer to refractory products made of high-purity or relatively pure raw materials. The presence of low melting point oxide impurities will reduce its high temperature performance. Use industrial alumina powder and pure clay, bauxite or silica as raw materials to synthesize pure mullite raw materials, especially the content of alkali metal oxides should be as low as possible. Products made with mullite aggregates as aggregates have good thermal shock resistance but poor erosion resistance. The physical and chemical properties of a typical corundum-mullite brick are: Al2O3>85%, Fe2O3 0.45%, apparent porosity 19%, normal temperature compressive strength greater than 55MPa, load softening temperature greater than 1700°C, heating line changes (1600°C, 3h) -0.1%, thermal shock resistance (1100℃ water cooling) greater than 30 times.

1.The corundum mullite brick Production Process
Crushing→Mixing→Shaping→Drying→Firing→Inspection→Packaging and Shipment

Synthetic mullite is usually used to make corundum-mullite bricks. Mullite particles can be used as aggregates, α-Al2O3 powder can be used as powder, and fused or sintered corundum particles can also be used as aggregates and synthetic mullite powder. For powder. Aggregate and powder are blended according to a certain ratio and particle size gradation, and sulfite pulp waste liquid is used as a binding agent, and the materials are added in a certain order, fully mixed and uniform, and formed by friction brick press or hydraulic brick press. After the bricks are dried, they are fired at 1650-1750°C.

Some use fused or sintered corundum sand as aggregate, and use bauxite or clay mixed fine powder with high α-Al2O3 composition ratio of mullite or corundum-mullite as powder to make bricks. Products made by this process are slightly less dense, so this process is not widely used.
