 Performance analysis of mullite - sillimanite brick, The reasons for the excellent creep resistance of sillimanite brick are as follows from the microstructure analysis:
(1) The main crystalline phase of the product is mullite.The matrix material consists of mullite, corundum and a small amount of special corrosion resistant compounds.The total crystal phase content is about 95%, indicating that the product is mainly crystal phase.
(2) The glass in the products is about 5%, indicating that the raw material has less impurities and less liquid content under high temperature.
(3) The decomposition and expansion reaction of sillimanite, especially the expansion effect of secondary mullite, enhanced the high temperature structural strength of the matrix.

The crystalline phase of mullite comes from two aspects:

 (1) Mullite (electric fusion or sintering) is selected as the raw material for coarse particles of the products, and the mullite is selected with few impurities and high purity.

 (2) The addition of mullite crystal phase (primary mullite) transformed by sillimanite concentrate at high temperature and the reaction of SiO2 generated by the transformation of sillimanite at high temperature with the high aluminum material in the product (secondary mullite) increased the content of crystal phase.

 The large amount of mullite indicates that the sillimanite brick is mainly crystalline phase, and the effect of glass phase is very small.

 Mullite is columnar, long columnar or needle crystal, forming special network structure and the volume expansion effect associated with the primary or secondary mullite process, which further strengthens the high temperature structural strength of the matrix.The above is the reason for the excellent creep resistance of the product.
