1. Physical and chemical properties of silica motile
"Silicon" refers to silicon carbide brick, "Mo" refers to mullite, in fact, silicon Mo brick is high bauxite, silicon carbide as the main raw material, through sintering produced refractory bricks.In essence, silico brick is just a high alumina brick with silicon carbide added.Among them, some products may be mixed with mullite, "three stone", corundum and other refractory materials.
SiC is synthesized by the reaction of carbon and silicon dioxide under the condition of ultra-high temperature and strong reduction.The characteristic of synthesis is that carbon particles do not move, and SiO2 and intermediate substances (SiO, Si) first become gas phase and then contact with carbon and react.

 

2. The influence of silicon carbide on the performance of high aluminum brick
Adding silicon carbide can greatly improve the wear resistance, thermal shock resistance, softening temperature under load and erosion resistance of high aluminum brick, and produce a new type of refractory brick with superior comprehensive properties.
Silicon carbide has a Mohs hardness of up to 9.5.When silicon carbide is added to high alumina brick, the hardness of firebrick is increased.In this way, when the abrasive particles are in contact with the refractory brick, the depth of the abrasive particles chiseling into the refractory brick is limited, and the possibility of cutting certain material from the refractory brick surface when the abrasive particles slide on the refractory brick surface is reduced, thus improving the abrasion resistance of the refractory brick.SiC has a high thermal conductivity [84W/(m•K)] and a moderate low coefficient of thermal expansion (4.7×10-6/K).The addition of silicon carbide into high alumina bricks increases the thermal conductivity and reduces the thermal expansion coefficient.Thus, the thermal shock resistance of high alumina brick can be improved remarkably.
SiC is oxidized to form SiO2 and CO, and SiO2 reacts with Al2O3 to form mullite.Both of these reactions are accompanied by a large increase in volume.The reaction product mullite also has good high temperature properties.Therefore, the appropriate addition of silicon carbide is helpful to compensate the reburning shrinkage of refractory bricks, improve the softening temperature under load and creep resistance.

At the earliest, the technical personnel of western countries believed that the upper limit of the use temperature of high aluminum bricks in cement kilns was 1300 ~ 1350℃.If the temperature exceeds 1300℃, CaO in cement clinker and Al2O3, SiO2 in firebrick reaction formed rich in Cas2, C2As products will be burned flow, loss of protection of firebrick will soon be damaged.Therefore, the high temperature zone of cement kiln including firing zone and transition zone need to use alkaline brick.At present, this view needs to be revised because of the Chinese invention of silica brick.
The corrosion mechanism of high alumina brick was changed by adding silicon carbide.This change is due to the oxidation of SiC.
First, SiC on the surface of SiMo brick oxidizes into SiO2, blocking the pore on the surface of the brick, making the atmosphere inside the brick into a reduced state.
Second, the SiC inside the SiMo brick is activated and oxidized, and the SiO gas formed diffuses to the surface of the refractory brick and further oxidizes to form SiO2.
Third, the new SiO2, together with other substances, forms a high-viscosity glassy phase, which blocks the pores, slows down the entry of oxygen and maintains the reductive atmosphere in the brick.Therefore, when the original protective layer of high viscosity glass phase on the surface of the brick is eroded and thinned, oxygen enters the brick, and the SiC inside the brick is activated and oxidized, and the SiO gas generated is oxidized to SiO2 on the surface of the brick, and a new protective layer is established.This cycle greatly slows down the erosion of the firebrick and increases its life.
3. Varieties and properties of SiMo brick
SiC brick is a kind of high alumina silicon carbide firebrick.If different special refractory materials are added to the silico brick, some properties of silico brick can be further improved, and the modified silico brick can be divided into different subclasses.For example, silica red brick can be made by substituting part of andalusite for bauxite in silica brick material.In addition to high temperature resistance and corrosion resistance, SiMo red brick also has better thermal shock resistance than SiMo brick.
The practice of many cement factories has proved that silmo red brick or silmo brick can be used in the upper transition zone of 5000t/d new dry hydrokiln for 12 months.The upper transition belt used in the new type of 2500t/d dry process cement kiln can obtain a service life of 1 ~ 2 years, which is equivalent to 150% ~ 200% of magnesia-alumina spinel brick.

1, wear resistance
The main crystalline phase of silicon mohs brick is composed of high hardness silicon carbide (Mohs hardness 9.0 ~ 9.5), mullite (Mohs hardness 7.0 ~ 7.5) and corundum (Mohs hardness 9.0 ~ 9.2).Product density is high, the volume density is above 2.7g·cm-3, the normal temperature wear resistance of refractory materials depends on its strength and the density of the structure, the strength and density of high materials, wear resistance is better.The lining of cement rotary kiln is subjected to material rolling friction and wear for a long time, which is one of the main reasons of refractory lining damage.The density, strength and wear resistance of SiMo brick are significantly better than those of high alumina brick and magnesia-alumina spinel brick.In the cement rotary kiln secondary firing zone, transition zone and other parts of the use of good effect, it can be said that good wear resistance plays a very important role.
2, high temperature performance
The softening temperature of silicon motile under load is above 1500℃, and some is as high as 1690℃, which can fully withstand the high temperature impact in the kiln, without softening or deformation.
Different grades of silicon brick, the load softening temperature is different, the application of different parts.Secondary firing belt or upper and lower transition zone, the temperature is up to 1400 ~ 1450℃, higher than the sintering belt brick surface temperature (sintering belt is lined with kiln skin protection, brick surface temperature is 900 ~ 1000℃), so the choice of silicon brick brand 1650, and the safety belt, decomposition belt or cooling belt temperature is lower, the choice of brand 1600;The pre - heating zone or decomposing zone can be made of silica motile of grade 1550.The softening temperature under load of these SiMo bricks is significantly higher than that of high-alumina bricks.
Due to the lack of kiln skin protection, the secondary firing zone or the upper and lower transition zone is easily affected by reducing atmosphere and high heat load, and its service life has always been the bottleneck problem of cement rotary kiln. Therefore, some cement factories use magnesia-alumina spinel brick in the transition zone.The magnesia-alumina spinel brick was used in the transition zone of 5000t·d-1 large-scale kiln in a factory. The following conclusions were drawn: the magnesia-alumina spinel brick was basically used in the transition zone of the lower transition zone without erosion, but the structure was densified due to the alkali deposition in the opening pores, resulting in the formation of different segments of the same brick, and the hot surface of the brick was peeled off and cracks were produced, resulting in the inner lining damage.SiMo brick because of its dense structure, especially the brick surface formed a continuous SiO2 dense layer, prevent the penetration of molten material, coupled with Al2O3, SiC, SiO2 chemical substances stable, and not produced in the kiln SO2, C02 and other gases violent reaction, also not with cement material chemical reaction, so SiMo brick corrosion resistance is strong.
3, anti-spalling and thermal shock stability
As is known to all, the temperature of cement rotary kiln varies greatly, and the kiln is frequently stopped for maintenance or to deal with accidents, and the lining must bear violent temperature fluctuations.SiC brick contains a certain SiC, SiC thermal conductivity is high, the coefficient of thermal expansion is relatively small, so that the thermal rattan stability of products significantly improved, 1100℃ water cooling test are more than 10 times, up to 46 times, so the silicon brick in the cement rotary kiln use is not peeling, not fracture, significantly improve the service life.
4, heat insulation performance
The spinel brick used in the transition zone of cement rotary kiln increases the heat dissipation loss due to the high thermal conductivity and affects the life of the kiln body, so that the kiln should be stopped for maintenance 2~3 times a year and the refractory material should be replaced.The thermal conductivity [≤2.3W·(m·K)] of silica motile is lower than that of spinel brick, so the thermal insulation effect of silica motile is better.The surface temperature of silicate bricks used in the secondary firing zone, transition zone, cooling zone, pre-heating zone and decomposition zone of large rotary kiln is more than 100℃ lower than that of the cylinder with spinel bricks.
