Insertion loss is a very important parameters for fiber optic adapter. But not all fiber adapter in the market has same performance so their insertion loss may be different.

To ensure two fiber cores contact and mating to be a line is the key point to ensure the excellent connection quality of the adapter, it mainly depends on the physical properties of the optical fiber, precision of the adapter pin and the assembly precision of the adapter . Meanwhile , the optical properties of the fiber and the polishing quality of the end face also have a direct affect on the optical performance and reliability of the adapter.

Insertion loss is the attenuation of the optical power caused by the adapter to the system (i.e., the relative reduction of the output power of the optical adapter with respect to the input power). The insertion loss is mainly caused by the deviation between the two optical fibers. If the two fibers are connected in a straight line, the deviation is zero, the insertion loss is minimized.
