Hunter Hydrocyclone Mud Cleaners Remove And Dry Solids Retaining Expensive ­Fluids

 

Hunter mud cleaner uses a two-stage separation process for enhanced drilling fluid recovery. This design enables our mud cleaners to handle the entire circulating volume and remove any dry solids while retaining premium base fluid, which is vital to drilling success.

 

Mud cleaner is equipment consisting of the shaker, desander cone, and desilter cone. We call it three in one, too. For the oil drilling mud process, the desander cone is sized 8-12''. The desilter cone is 4'' or 5''. Different size cones hold different treating capacities. When we confirm the configuration or design of mud cleaner, we should consider the general flow rate of all cones. For example, a 4" cone capacity is about 20m³/h and if we request a 240m³/h flow rate we need to configure 12 cones at least. To consider some heavy mud and large solids content we suggest 125% of the rated capacity.

 

Our two-stage process is achieved by a combination of hydrocyclones mounted over a shale shaker to operate as a single unit. The hydrocyclones make the primary separation with underflow directed onto the shaker vibrating screen.

 

Cones on Hunter mud cleaner are all high-quality polyurethane. Such cones are durable and anti-corrosive, oil-resistant, high temperature-resistant. They are very suitable for the drilling fluids process. For some clients, they prefer flexible capacity adjustment during operation so we'll install ball valves on the cone's inlet line. 

 


 

Drilling mud is transferred to cones by a centrifugal pump from the shaker tank. Desander cone and desilter cone are fed by different pumps. This will provide better results. Under pump pressure, the fluids will run into cones and flow with centrifugal force. Then the heavy particles will deposit down and pushed out of the cone drop in Apex.

 

After the mud cleaner processing, the solids larger than 15 microns will be separated out of drilling fluids. The drilling mud with solids sprays out of cones drops down to the bottom screen panel. Under vibration and filtration, the solids will be drier and save many fluids for a good drilling. The cleaned mud is transferred to a centrifuge.

 

Our mud cleaners are equally effective for both weighted and unweighted drilling fluids and effectively lower both drilling fluid expenses and disposal costs.

 

Some clients don't know the difference between desander and desilter. Actually, it's very easy to identify them. Bigger cones separate larger particles and smaller ones separate the finer particles. And fluids will be separated by desilter after being processed by desander. 

 

Besides the mud conditioner, the separated desander and desilter is another option for users. Please refer to information on desander and desilter for more reference. The bottom shaker under the mud cleaner cone is used to dry fluids out of the cone. So, the mesh size is rather high and the capacity is enough for discharge from the cone but not the same as the previous shaker

optimum separation capability, the pressure differential through the hydrocyclone manifold can be controlled by the installation of isolation
valves on each cone.
To add an additional layer of screen protection, hydro cyclone manifold discharges can be collected in underflow collection troughs or each
cone can be fitted with a flow-deflection, “screen saver.” In AIPU’s multi-functional mud cleaners, the collection troughs can then be
directed to the top deck or bottom deck depending on the application and desired level of solid-liquid separation.
