Ethylene vinyl acetate (EVA) foam can be easily cut from sheets and molded into shapes. It is a soft and durable polymer of ethylene and vinyl acetate that is commonly used for flooring, but also for sports equipment and set design. The material is often used to make flip-flops because it is soft and not spongy. EVA foam is trouble-free, easy to work with, and often comes in a variety of colors and thicknesses.
EVA foam EVA is known for being light weight, easy to mold, odorless, shiny and cheaper than natural rubber. It is used as a padding in a variety of sports equipment such as bicycle saddles, field hockey pads, boxing and mixed martial arts gloves and helmets, ski boots, surfboards, wakeboard boots, water ski boots, fishing rods and fishing reel handles. In most cases, it is used as a shock absorber for athletic shoes, flip-flops and sandals. It is used in the manufacture of end-user floats for commercial fishing gear, such as seine nets (fishing) and gill nets. In fishing rods, EVA is used on the end of the rod handle. In many applications, EVA can be used as an alternative to cork. In addition, due to its buoyancy, EVA has found its way into personal products such as floating eyeglasses. It is also used in the photovoltaic industry as an encapsulation material for crystalline silicon solar cells used in the manufacture of photovoltaic modules. It is also used in construction equipment, such as insulation and carpet underlayment, and in health care for things like splints.
