A manifold absolute pressure (MAP) sensor is used to measure the pressure inside a vehicle's intake manifold. It is typically found next to or on the throttle body and its readings are relayed to the Engine Control Unit (ECU) in order to calculate air density and the resulting air-fuel mixture for the combustion process.
The ECU uses the MAP sensor signal to measure engine load, fuel injection pulse, and to adjust ignition timing.
