Stamping presses and stamping dies are tools used to produce high volume sheet metal parts. A press provides the force to close the stamping dies where they shape and cut the sheet metal into finished products. There are four main reasons why stainless steel is a good choice for a metal stamping project. Stainless steel is corrosion resistant, strong, low-cost and has a long-life span. The metal lasts and almost never needs a refurbishing type of maintenance. With an impressive life cycle and decent upfront cost, stainless steel is a cost-effective choice for almost any application.

 

Advantages of stainless steel stamping parts

 

1 . The difference between stainless steel and carbon steel is the chromium content. Unprotected carbon steel tends to form rust or iron oxide when exposed to air and moisture. Stainless steel contains enough chromium to form a chromium oxide passivation film, which prevents the diffusion of corrosion into the internal structure of the metal by preventing the diffusion of oxygen to the steel surface, thereby preventing further surface corrosion. Stainless steel has corrosion and stain resistance, low maintenance costs and familiar gloss, making it an ideal material for many applications
2 . Stainless steel is a steel alloy with a minimum chromium content of 10.5% (mass). Stainless steel is a commonly used metal in many metal stamping projects because of its corrosion resistance and stain resistance. Yonglihao die stamping has rich experience in stainless steel stamping and is suitable for all types of stainless steel.
3 . Stainless steel stampings are not as easily corroded, rusted or dirty by water like ordinary steel. Stainless steel stamping parts have different grades and surface finishes to suit the environment that the alloy must withstand.

 

Yonglihao stainless steel stamping parts mainly use 304, 304L, 316, 316L, and 17-4 PH as raw materials for stamping parts.

 

Commonly Cast Stainless Steel Alloys:

 

Stainless Steel 304(1.4308)

 

This is the most common stainless steel and is applied in different applications. It consists of at least 18% chromium and 8% nickel and has no magnetic properties within its austenitic structure.

 

Stainless Steel 304L(1.4309)

 

Corresponds to stainless steel 304. The ‘L’ stands for ‘low carbon’, so this stainless steel has a lower carbon amount to increase weldability and to limit the corrosion sensitivity after welding.

 

Stainless Steel 316(1.4408)

 

A better, but more expensive type of corrosion resistant steel is stainless steel 316. This alloy contains at least 16% chromium, 10% nickel and 2% molybdenum. Because of the addition of molybdenum, this stainless steel type is better defended against salt corrosion and acids, and is often applied in chemical industries.

 

Stainless Steel 316L(1.4409)

 

Comparable to stainless steel 316 but with a lower carbon level to increase weldability of the stainless steel.

 

17-4 PH(1.4549)

 

A high quality stainless steel which is regularly used in the aircraft industry. It is characterized by a high tensile strength, hardness, toughness and is also corrosion resistant.
