358 Security Prison Mesh Fence system (Also known as prison mesh or
358 mesh) is dominantly used in fencing systems designed to bring
maximum perimeter protection to a site without impeding visibility
(which is important for human patrolling or video surveillance).
This style of mesh has been universally accepted as the most secure
form of welded mesh panel commercially available with significant
inherent advantages over products such as chain link fencing or
other forms of welded mesh fencing owing to its unique
configuration.

Mesh pattern: 76.2 mm × 12.7 mm resistance welded well at each intersection.
Wire diameter: 4.0 mm horizontal wire and 4.5 mm vertical Wire.
Weld strength: range 540-690 N/m2
Surface treatment: Galfan coated before welded, then polyester coated green RAL 6005,
or black RAL 9005.

The mesh panel is made in galvanized steel wire (and can then be
optionally polyester powder and/or Epoxy coated) in an aperture
configuration of 76.2 mm vertical wire (also called line wire)
pitch by 12.7 mm horizontal wire (also called cross wire) pitch.
This means a clear opening between horizontal wires of less than 9
mm – inadequate to insert hand tools for cutting the mesh. The
vertical wires of the mesh further restrict the opening available
forming small rectangles throughout the panel. The mesh is
therefore extremely difficult to penetrate using conventional hand
tools and thus gives a delay time under attack several times
greater than traditional fencing products such as chain link mesh.
The closeness of the horizontal wires also makes for a mesh panel
almost impossible to grip, thus climb, when used as part of a
fencing system, and thus the name “Anti-climb”. The mesh apertures
are finger/toe proof and the closeness of the horizontal wires
gives excellent visibility through the mesh both from head-on and
angled directions. The welded mesh panels have a non-aggressive
appearance with pleasant aesthetics further adding to their
pre-eminence over other wire fencing panels. Finally unlike chain
link fencing the welded mesh will not unravel or lose stability if
cut – every intersection of every wire is individually welded
throughout the mesh panel.
Why is it called 358 High Security Prison Fence?
'358' comes from its measurements 3" x 0.5" x 8 gauges which
equates to approx. 76.2mm x 12.7mm x 4mm (Length x height x
Diameter) in metric.358 High Security Prison Fence are extremely
difficult to penetrate, with the small mesh aperture being
effectively finger proof, and extremely difficult to attack using
conventional hand tools. 358 High Security Prison Fence are
recognized as one of the most difficult breakthrough barriers,
because it is difficult to climb. It is called security fencing and
high- strength fencing. 358 security fencing panel can be bent in
part to enhance the aesthetic effect.
While358 High Security Prison Fence has many of the attributes of 358 Security Fencing and its main
strength is it's lighter. Using 3mm wire instead of 4mm allows even
better visibility allowing a wider variety of applications. It’s
lighter and cheaper so it's ideal for commercial applications.

358 mesh (also known as "prison mesh") has a 76.2x12.5mm mesh size,
making it very hard to get a finger or toe hold. It can very from
1.8m to as high as 6m and can be galvanised and powder-coated. It
is now often used as a school or bollege boundary fence as shown
below.

unit in Weybridge, Surrey
Anti-climb, powder-coated mesh fence & gate
This 4m high anti-climb fence was erected at a mental secure unit
in Bexhill, East Sussex. This fence was erected with a concrete
sill and the bottom of the mesh buried in the silly. This
particular installation had a sequence locking system allowing
patients to access selected areas and certain "airlock" gates were
one-way only.

358 Security Prison Mesh gets its name from its compostion: 3 inch
by 1/2 inch by 8 gauge mesh (75 x 12.5 x 4 mm metric). Its dense
mesh structure is ideal for rebound sports or those where there is
a high amount of ball impact. Typically the 358 mesh is used on the
lower 1.2 metres of fenc eheight and is surmounted by less dense 50
x 50 weldmesh. The 358 mesh is usually supported by 2 horizontal
rails, either in timber or steel
