At 12 noon on June 16th, the highly anticipated Shanghai Disneyland
officially opened its doors in the drizzle. After five years of
construction, the first Disney theme park in mainland China has
finally unveiled its mystery. In fact, in addition to this, a large
number of foreign theme parks have come to China, bringing a big
impact to the domestic theme park industry.
With the advent of the era of universal tourism, the huge potential
of the Chinese tourism market has attracted the attention of the
capital of global theme parks. Our research data found that in
2015, China's domestic tourism exceeded 4 billion people, and
tourism revenue exceeded 4 trillion yuan. As a new type of cultural
tourism, the theme park has become the new blue ocean of the
Chinese tourism market. The data shows that over 80% of the
respondents are the preferred theme park for parent-child travel.
Some institutions have predicted that China will surpass the United
States in 2020 to become the world's largest theme park market. By
then, the number of visitors will be 221 million, twice the number
of people in 2015.
Therefore, the swarming capital also tries to get a share of it.
The data shows that the speed of building theme parks in China is
the highest in the world. According to incomplete statistics, as of
the first half of 2014, there were 59 proposed theme park projects
in China, ranking the first in the world. In 2015, a total of 21
theme parks opened in China, and another 20 theme parks were under
construction.
We learned that the investment in theme parks is affected by many
factors such as the location of the area, traffic conditions, the
number of people within a four-hour drive, the number of local
tourists, and the concept of consumer consumption in the region.
Secondly, the theme park's design and planning, the cultural
elements involved, the theme of the park, the designed garden
route, the story's expression, and even whether the equipment is
domestic or imported, will affect the investment amount.
Take a well-known domestic theme park investor as an example.
Generally, each park covers an area of 600 to 800 mu. The
investment amount is about 3 billion yuan without land, and the
investment recovery period is 6 to 10 years.
Cultural tourism products are the future development trend,
including many fund companies and investment institutions that want
to actively participate. For theme parks, direct income generally
includes sales of tickets, souvenirs, and various derivatives. The
income brought by the indirect effect includes the improvement of
the brand image, the surrounding commercial community, and the
improvement of land prices.
For example, some theme parks may be built in previously remote
areas. However, after the theme parks are settled, government
facilities will be in place and land prices will rise. At the same
time, theme parks will also boost the income of a group of related
industries. Everyone hopes to continue building the theme park.
On the other hand, although the Chinese theme park industry has
very good development prospects, we expect that in the next three
to five years, with the increasingly fierce competition in regional
competition and technological capabilities, theme parks will face a
major reshuffle.
An institutional source said that the emergence of Disney will
undoubtedly affect the competitive landscape of the Yangtze River
Delta amusement park market, but compared to other influential
parks such as Changzhou Dinosaur Park and Happy Valley, Disney is
the main brand of culture and also targets high-end consumption. In
the long run, price differences may lead to diversion of consumers.
Nowadays, people's demand for leisure tourism is improving.
Although China will probably concentrate on building a large number
of large-scale theme parks in the future, the demand for China's
tourism market is large enough, and the theme parks can also form a
“herd effect”.
Although capital is rushing into the theme park market, in the eyes
of the industry, this wave of enthusiasm is still mixed. The good
news is that the reason why capital has favored theme parks is
mainly optimistic about the huge potential of China's tourism
market. What is worrying is that domestic theme parks have the
status of overheated investment. For example, the original theme
parks generally chose to settle in first-tier cities, but now many
prefecture-level cities, and even county-level cities such as
Zhejiang Yiwu, have begun to be built.
Looking at the "Analysis of the Development Status of China's Theme
Park Industry in 2015", it shows that 80% of the local theme parks
that have emerged in the past 10 years have been closed down,
causing economic losses of up to 300 billion yuan to the domestic
tourism industry. At present, there are about 300 domestic theme
parks with an investment of more than 50 million yuan. Among them,
theme parks with certain brand awareness and good business
performance account for about 10%, and about 70% of theme parks are
losing money, and about 20% are flat. .
However, there are frequent drawbacks in the development of theme
parks. In addition to the repeated constructions discussed above,
excessive dependence on ticket revenues, and cottages, some experts
said, “There are differences in the perception of theme parks
abroad and domestically: domestically The park is equivalent to an
amusement park. Foreign countries are more optimistic about nature
parks, country parks, and ecological parks. It is not just an
entertainment park like Disney. When the economy is going up,
entertainment parks are more popular, and entertainment parks are
the icing on the cake for consumers; Country parks are very scarce
in China. As a supporting product of modern cities, urban parks,
country parks, museums, etc., this is a very big demand.
Entertainment parks are more or less a luxury at this stage. China
is building a theme park. It’s a 'leap-forward development' and the
current economic downturn exacerbates this mismatch."
Now that China is facing downward pressure on the economy, large
investment banks are asking, how much pressure can we afford? The
economic environment is different from when Disney came to China
five years ago. What kind of theme parks can be favored by Chinese
people at this time. We compare the data and find that under this
node, more learning theme parks will be Benefits, museums related
to reading, technology, and even art are welcome.
