ASTM A789 S31803 is a specification for seamless and welded duplex
stainless steel tubes. Duplex stainless steel refers to a type of
stainless steel that contains a combination of both austenitic and
ferritic stainless steels. This combination provides enhanced
mechanical properties and corrosion resistance compared to
traditional stainless steels.
The S31803 grade specifically refers to a duplex stainless steel
alloy that contains approximately 22% chromium, 5% nickel, 3%
molybdenum, and small amounts of other elements such as nitrogen
and manganese.
ASTM A789 is the standard specification for seamless and welded
duplex stainless steel tubes for general corrosion-resisting and
low or high-temperature service. This specification covers tubes in
sizes ranging from 1/8" to 5" in outside diameter, with wall
thicknesses from 0.015" to 0.500".
Duplex steel tubes made to the ASTM A789 S31803 specification are
commonly used in various industries such as oil and gas, chemical
processing, pulp and paper, and desalination plants. They are known
for their high strength, excellent corrosion resistance, and good
weldability.
It is important to note that ASTM A789 S31803 tubes should be used
in accordance with the specific requirements and conditions of the
application, and proper testing and inspection should be conducted
to ensure their suitability for the intended use.
