ASTM A179 A1060 G Type Carbon Steel Fin Tube Petroleum Chemical
Power plants
What is G Type Finned Tube?
In the G finned tube, the fins are prepared by embedding a metal
strip into a groove. The latter is formed on a base tube. The fins
are placed on top and then backfilled - thus making the fins firmly
attached to the base tube. Hence the name G-Fin Tubes. The three
processes described above are carried out simultaneously. Because
the fins are firmly attached to the base tube, G-Fin Tubes are
expected to achieve maximum heat transfer.
G-Fin Tubes usually work in high temperature (with about 400
degrees Celsius) applications. These fins are made of copper,
carbon or aluminum and are relatively resistant to atmospheric
corrosion. On the other hand, the mechanical resistance is
acceptable. Stainless steel and carbon steel fin materials are also
used, but special processing and tooling for steel fin strips is
necessary. Air coolers, radiators, etc. use g-fin tubes.
